Support OUR troops?

There may be a better spot for this, but I didn't find one. SO, here it is.

Got this ad from Hobby King in my e-mail regarding a veterans day sale.

They state it is to "support our troops" OUR TROOPS ???

Just one problem. Their troops are in China !!

AND, They don't even know how to spell "HONOR"

tom ,did you take part in any of the Veterans Day events over the holiday weekend? To honour our war veterans, for today only, we have decided to offer FREE SHIPPING on selected warbirds from our USA warehouse. Click here to see that are currently being shipped for free!

or

http://www.rcgroups.com/vendors-189/

would have been better areas for this thread.

One should first of all realize that any special day is first seen as an oppiturnity for a sale by most vendors.

Well considering HobbyKing is owned by an Assie who seems to use the king's English (and Hong Kong also was under the Brits correct?) then the spelling for "honour" is actually correct. I never saw in the email where they stated, "support our troops"..?? Maybe you received a different ad? Also I think its great to offer free shipping from the USA warehouse too considering Veterans Day is for vets in the USA...

@tacx I got the same email and like ridge_racer pointed out the use of the King's English. Relax my Brother. Being a Veteran, I took no offense of it. In fact, I'm happy they even remembered our Veterans.

BTW, Happy (belated) Veterans Day & Remembrance Day to all my Comrades.

"Honour" is spelled correctly for those countries that speak English.
Thanks to all who serve no matter from what country they originate.

Considering this is a USA-targeted email (USA warehouse deal), I guess it still technically is an error and they should be using USA-english.

OK let me be clear. I'm a veteran. 529th MP HONOR GUARD company. 1966- 1969.

I HONOR our vets whenever I get the chance.

I know this is no big deal, but it just hit me wrong. Unless veterans day was observed in all countries their " OUR troops" just bugged me.

I am at least glad they notice our troops. Most people have forgot that we are still at war. Thank you to everyone who serves/has served this wonderful country we are blessed enough to live in!!!

Veteran's day, or Remembrance Day in Canada, U.K. Australia Hong Kong and other countries of the British Empire.
Not sure about a lot of other countries in the world. I'm sure a lot of them remember the sacrifices of their armed forces personel.
Thank you for serving your country.

Regards,
Dave.

Yes, we have remembrance day in Aus and most people show their respect to our fallen 'Diggers' at 11:11, 11th day of the 11th month with 1 minute's silence....Same day as Veteran's day in the USA.

"Lest We Forget" - May no more Diggers face the dogs of war.

(Perth, Western Australia - The Flame of Remembrance is positioned in the centre of the Pool of Reflection, within the walls of the State War Memorial Precinct. It has four burners representing the Army, Navy, Air Force and Women’s Services)

You do realise that Veterans day is also celebrated in lots of other countries, CA, UK, AU, NZ, SA etc - don't you? Its called Armistice day or Remembrance day instead.

I agree with you. It was a clumsy, self-serving attempt at ingratiation. Even though they must have employees in the US and other countries, and even if I believe HK is owned by an Australian, their on-line persona is one of a Hong Kong Chinese company, so to put "To honour our war veterans, for today only," in an email to sell stuff is just outrageous.

So, what to do? If you feel strongly, letter writing, personal boycott, and posting here seem your only recourse. Personally, I think you made your point, and hopefully the folks at HK will pay attention. I'd just chalk it up to cultures learning about each other, slowly, but necessarily.
