My Yellow AVA Killer is here!!

Well my big yellow AvA Killer came by Fed-X today!!

I had to get a Topaz-S cause Freeman had one!!

But really is was cause Freeman cheated in the last mini contest we had at our field. We were neck and neck and battling for first place. He was flying his Pike Perfect and me my JW. We were battling good.

Then the wind died off to nothing and ships needed lots of float to stay up and get their 10 minute task!

So that Bastard John Freeman pulls out his Topaz-S and floats around the sky and gets his 10 minutes. My poor old heavy Open class JW gets like 8:30 and that Bastard Freeman wins our mini contest!!

Well that won't happen again!

I got my own TOPAZ-S!!

Smack talk Don. That's all I can say smack talk. We will see who gets killed in May.

Oh, I guess you have not heard. The yellow ones were discontinued because of a structural weakness caused by the yellow jell coat. That coupled with the high altitude disapearious caused by the transparent yellow Ultracote. I hope you have one of those aircraft locators in that Topaz.

Anyway it sure is pretty. See ya come May 3rd.

Walt

Topaz S and Houston club contest April 5th (Sat)

Don,
Bring you Topaz S and any other weapons to the Houston Hawks montly contest. We are flying RES in the morning and Open in the afternoon. A good tuneup for the Texas Triad, Quad-rad or whatever we are calling the series this year.

I have a yellow Topaz-s. There is some truth to the long distance visabilty of that color. I am putting red on one side to be better able to fly it at a distance. When its far away gets kinda of hard to see what direction it is going.

You will like the plane though. The spoilers are massive and very effective. You will not need full deflection for landing. It will take some time getting the deflection and compensation to what you like.

The other issue I have seen with the plane is the screw that holds the rudder on can tighten up and cuase the rudder to not work right.

Good luck with it, it certainly will compeate with the AVA,

I believe its a Chek airplane but do not remember for sure. I got mine from Skip Miller models. Its is a 3 channel, becuase it is designed for the RES class. Even as a res plane if you learn it, it will compeate with the big boys. Of course does not have the penatration of a moldie, but will fly in extreamily light lift. The spoliers are effective enough that is is possible to spot land fairly well.

The new Topaz-S with split spoilers (as far as I know) is RES only. There are quite a few variations of the standard Topaz, you are correct!

As far as what makes the Topaz-S an AVA killer? Hmmm, tough one....my personal criteria for branding it an AVA killer are quite diverse, and are as follows:

1. Any non-AVA RES ship that you own can be an AVA killer.
2. You must have a sense of humor.
3. You and your friends must enjoy "smack talking".

.....and bonus criteria #4:

4. If you fly competitively against your buddies in Houston and you know they get annoyed when you call your RES ship an AVA killer (since they mostly fly AVA's, and you don't) well then you definitely have an AVA killer.

I hope this helps you understand the AVA killer naming convention and criteria.

John.

More Smack for the Fire

AVA killer, AVA smeller, blah, blah, blah.....
You need a Topaz just to chase an AVA. Doesn't mean you'll actually catch it.
Kinda like a dog chasing a bird, keeps chasing but never quite catches anything!

Would a Bubble Dancer be an AVA killer?

Yes! You get it! You satisfy critieria #2 & #3, though 3 out of 4 is required in order to be classified as an AVA killer....However, we might make you an honorary member, much to the dismay of your AVA lovin friends!
