Spektrum DX6i is a very popular choice and, if you get one, it is likely to be all you need for some time to come.

One thing about the new 2.4GHz systems is you can't use other manufacturers' receivers like you can with 72MHz, so you'll have to stick with Spektrum receivers. I'm not a Spektrum owner, but if you check their web site you'll see that they have quite a range of receivers -- some with short range for "park flyers", some with "slave" receivers for improved signal reception, and various numbers of channels.

The Hobby King 2.4 radios are proving to be quite good. Pick one.
BUT make sure that you buy enough Receivers for.. any.. future needs as without doubt you will not be able to buy them later.
Alhough most ALL 2.4 radios MUST use their own brand receivers and the rascals seem to keep changing the systems..even the Hi priced sets.
So there seems (un?) planned obsolesence, regardless of the systems purchase price..almost every 1/2 year.

I know this is slightly off topic of what this section is discussing, but this is about Spektrum's new DX8. They only announced it in public a few days ago but here is a picture that has been up for about a year. Please spread.
