Hacker b50 9xl?

Hello-I just got a hold of an old unused hacker b50-9xl for a very good price,I am trying to learn about fast electrics because I want to change some of my old nitro boats to electric. From what I read about this motor, it is a 12-18 cell motor, I really want to try this in a Dumas sorcerer wood boat (45 nitro),but I also have 2-55" scarabs, also. If I try this on my sorcerer, could I bring the cell count down to 4-6s,and what would be the ramifications if I did so, and would this motor also be a viable choice for one of the scarabs? Any opinions or info would be welcome since I am in the beginning stages of learning about the FE arena-----Thanx!

I think you will find that the 3674 motor is underpowered for the 37" Sorcerer & definitely for the 55" Scarabs.
At 1700w max it means a continuous rating of around 1000-1200w. The prop size required to drive the boat might be too big for the motor to spin comfortably on 6s at 38,900 rpm
On 4s (25,900 rpm) you might get away with a 445 prop being big enough to drive the boat but the amp draw might be up there. You can only try.
The 55" scarabs are going to need a 8s - 10s setup as a minimum. A 12s setup would be the most efficient for hulls that big.
All depends on your speed & run time desires.

Exactly what is meant by a 8s-10s setup? Are you saying that using 8s-10s with this motor , or a whole different powertrain altogether- just a little confused, because I originally thought that this motor had alot to offer,if you had to compare it to a glow motor, what size would you consider it to be? Converting to electric is still quite confusing, when the only experience that I have is with glo engines,so I'm still stuck in thinking in those terms-sorry.

Hi Roadkilld.
When I mentioned a 10s-12s for the 55" Scarabs, I was meaning a different driveline on those voltages.
Maybe a Castle 2028 780kv on 10s or similar kv rating 56 series motor.
On 12s maybe a 56 series motor of around 550-650kv.
ESC would be a 240A HV Castle or Swordfish. It all gets a bit expensive for boats that big.
There are other motors & ESC's out there but these are middle of the road budget items

The 3674 motor would possibly be equal to a .15 or .20 glow motor. I'm not sure.
All I can say from personal experience is that we use that size motor in 26-32" boats that would usually run a .21-.35 glow motor, if that helps.
I don't have much experience with glow motors so hopefully someone else can put forward some comparisons. Especially for the bigger Scarab hulls.
