Amp draw of Efilte DF 180 fan/motor combo

Can any of you guys tell me the amp draw at WOT on this fan motor combo?
Tryin to get the info on the amp draw on 2 and 3 cells..

I was able to sand out enough of the foam from the little foam viperjets to get this fan mounted with a thrust tube installed..
I have some different amp ESC's ordered (8/12 and 20 amp) but have a stripped down 30 in there right now..
Going to try to fly it sometime this weekend..
2 linear servos on the ailerons and a micro servo on the elevator..

Any info I can get on the wide open throttle amp draw would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks and take care..........................................Chri s

The Mig/Habu fan unit mounted on a scale I got 52 grams static thrust at 3.0 amps on a 2s Thunder Power 325 65c. That was with a Phoenix 10 esc and a clamp on ammeter. Fan unit weights 13 grams.

mcross,
Thanks for that valuble info!!
Well im guessing the 12 amp ESC i have on the way will be fine for 2 cells..
I have some of thosse 65c thunder power 325 mah batteries in 2 and 3 cells and are the exact battery I plan to use with the little viperjet..
I also have some of the 200 mah eflite batteries but they are only like 25c..
A lot lighter though..
If anyone has the exact amp draws on 2 and 3 cells please post up................Thanks ...................Chris

Thank you mcross!!!
Very nice of you to post that up...
Well it would seem I can probably get away with the 8 amp ESC even for the 3 cell battery.....

Heres a few pics of the old beat up airframe im experimenting with...

you said earlier that you were using a clamp on am meter. Can you give me a link where to find such an ammeter for low currents?

Thanks and regards,

I hear ya, Chris. It's been a slow climb back into the hobby this end too after many family issues.

  • Motor/battery-current is proportional to voltage squared and proportional to Kv cubed! Way more than one would expect. (Worst case, ignoring voltage losses/sag due to the higher current ).
Whether motor can handle those current- and powerlevels is a different story.
  • Simple instructive table giving the extra current when you add one extra cell to a pack
(a.k.a. "why did my motor and/or controller and/or battery go up in smoke ???")
  • The Kv constant is not a rating, not a figure of merit, in that higher or lower is better, it's just a characteristic. More windings will give lower Kv, less windings will give higher Kv, that's all there is to it. No big deal, anyone can do that. Rewinding a motor with more (thicker) copper will give you a more efficient (Pout/Pin), more powerful and cooler running motor.
  • A motor's Kv constant says nothing about ... max.current and max. power a motor can handle, it is no indiction for efficiency, rpm, quality, torque, propsize etc.
  • Motors have just one Kv, not e.g. 2200Kv's.The motor Kv constant is physical quantity (length, weight, time, current, ...) measured/expressed in rpm/volt. It is not a physical unit (meter, kg, s, ampère, ... ).

Vriendelijke groeten Ron
