Shark Mouth PT Boat

When building my PT Boat, I came across articles and photos about this unusual paint scheme like here.
I decided to do mine like the full size, no shark eyes yet.
Here are some photos. I also added some little Italeri crew, but they're not exactly scale in my eyes, a bit too small.

The boat looks like a Lindberg kit, and they are "sort of" 1/32, actually oversize in a lot of arias. If that is the Hasagawa crew, they are 1/35, to match there boats. Remember, an 80' Elco, is a large boat.

It's the Dumas 1/30 - 33" kit.
Build video here.
The crew are made by Italeri, and yes, they are also too small at 1/35.

(1) Mabuchi RS-385SH brushed motor.
(1) Vantec RET411P speed control.

I should probably have a higher amp ESC for full throttle, things geta little warm, but it works great at cruising speed.

Looks good. I always liked the paint jobs that were different. That's why I went with PT-196 for my Lindy version. And yes, if you are using Italeri 1:35 figures on a Dumas 1:30 PT they will look very small. The Lindy PT scale is in between, so maybe you can find a trashed one on E-Bay and rescue the crew for your boat.
Are you using a gear drive? Or is the 385 motor direct drive? My Lindy PT runs on a single geared Speed 400 and a simple car type esc. That setup is minimum weight and is about scale speed with decent run times on a standard stick pack.

Dave, nice work.
Now I'm inspired to maybe paint the eyes too!

There was a Popular Machanics in the early 1940's that had an Elco with a shark mouth on the cover. I can't find the book right now but I did send a copy of the cover to patmat several years ago.

While that boat may have a PT designation, it is a British Vosper that has modified to resemble an 80' Elco boat. Higgins and Elco's were the only design used by the United States Navy in combat. In it's present state that boat is in a one off configuration and resembles neither and Elco or Vosper and I believe a little over priced considering it's present condition.

Dumas 33" PT

Here are some photo's of the boat I built in the mid 70's. The crew, and some of the details, were from a Lindberg kit. As until that kit came out, there were NO details, except the HR guns. It was powered by an ASTRO 15, on 9.6 volts.

Found it. It's dated March 1944. I think it's also a much retouched and colorized picture.
