I have some VTOL controller questions

I have built many planes and quads/hexes/octos etc. I am ready to move on to building a VTOL.

I am a bit intimidated by the controller for a VTOL. I have used KK, KK2 and WKM and a couple others. But I have never done any programming.

I want the features I have now with my WKM so I am looking at the APM 2.5 which seems like a full featured system. Sorry if this is a stupid question but is the MultiWii code portable over for use on the APM 2.5?

I have downloaded a couple examples of MultiWii code and I want to learn what was done to provide for the VTOL flight transitions. Can anyone point me to some tutorials or examples I can learn from?

Thanks, I'm sure I will have more questions since at this point I am kinda the "deer in the headlights" with all this code.

A good question but it's not really portable. Not without doing a lot of custom programming. You won't be able to just load up MultiWii code onto the APM board and start flying.

Since you say you haven't done any programming yet I suggest getting a basic MultiWii board and building a regular quad with it. It'll teach you the basics of how to upload code and change parameters in the code.

How about this for a controller? It says it can run MultiWii and Arucopter code. And later I can expand to GPS and more.

That should work but I don't know of anyone that has built a VTOL airplane with that board so you might be on your own as far a tech support goes. For a first time VTOL build I recommend using exactly what someone else has successfully used then once that is working you can experiment with other electronics. It'll save you $ in the long run.

Thanks, I respect your experience. You mentioned a basic MultiWii board , what board do you recommend?

The only board I can recommend for VTOL is the DIY one you build yourself from an Arduino Nano and Wii motion plus and nunchuck parts. It's the only one I have experience with.

The MultiWii lite or Crius lite should teach you the basics of how to upload code but only Lead Feather has experience using it with VTOL airplanes that I know of. I don't know if these boards have an accelerometer or not on them. You'll need it if doing a tri or bicopter type of build.
