Milang Open F3B International 2012

Hi all,

The Milang F3B Open international is on this week end (March 23, 24 and 25 2012 - near Adelaide, South Australia ). This is the second event on the World Cup F3B circuit for 2012. Not much talk about it on this forum so I guess I will give it a plug...

The Draw was released by Mike O this week - 16 pilots - can be found here;
http://www.lsfaustralia.org.au/
http://www.ssl.org.au
or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rcsoaringoz

Setup starts this afternoon (Thursday) and I am heading out there to help on Friday and Sunday. I will try and post some pictures and videos over the next few days.

The weather here is looking good - cooler temperatures though and not much rain. Friday might be a bit windy.

Greg

A windy day (25km/hr as per weather forecast) at Milang and rain stopped things for an hour around lunchtime.

Three rounds of speed and three rounds of duration completed.

The fastest speed run for the day was Jeroen Smits with his Fosa doing 12.6 sec, see on Facebook - "f3baustralia" for a photo.

The score sheet after day 1 is attached (courtesy also of f3baustralia on Facebook). Jeroen Smits on top of the leader board.

I won't be there tomorrow but will be there for the final day on Sunday - so hopefully I can get some more photos.

Yeah Chris, the weather was very Tasmanian - John Skinner was right at home! Although I reckon it was 5 or 8 degrees warmer here than when I was there last in Tassie

Brian thanks - I dont like posting on face book either I only read - Every one that you know (and even dont know) can see everything you do, say and think!

Photos from day 3 Milang...

My photos from day 3 at Milang, 25 Mar, 2012.

Great weather in the morning for duration - not much wind and plenty of lift. One round of distance and 2 rounds of speed.

Winners were; Jeroen Smits 1st, John Skinner 2nd and Mike Rae 3rd.

The Australian F3B team for Germany 2013 was also announced, John Skinner, Mike Rae, Carl Strautins and Nick Chabrel as reserve / helper.

Hi Greg,

Great photos, many thanks.

Congrats to John, Mike & especially Carl whose forte has traditionally been F3J.

FYI
Mike & Carl are also representing Australia in F3J this year in South Africa.

Good one Carl and congratulations to the team - John, Mike and Carl.
It's been a long time since you bought that brown paper covered SD7003 2M model to Jerilderie John but apparently you managed to bring the Tassie weather to this contest.

Chris.
That is awesome for Carl and Mike - Check out the smile on Mike's face in the last photo, that was about a minute or two after it was announced he was on the team for Germany!

There's a heap of photos to come as well over the next week or so.

Looking forward to what you shot Chuck.

Hi Chuck,
It was great you could come out (you are actually in some of the photos above!), hope it wasn't too cold staying at the flying field?

Its great to have non glider RC people at the field - any interest we can drum up to make the sport grow is all good.

It was also good to see the MASA guys out there too - they were all doing winch retrievals - the President also did the presentations. Robert G did well to get them all there.

Chuck, I cant wait to see any videos you have. Pity you missed filming Jeroens sub 13 sec run - I am kicking my self I had my camera in my hand and did not film it - I filmed John Skinner 2 runs before but not Jeroen - It would have made an awesome Youtube video - especially being one of the fastest times in the world!

Cheers Greg
