Question
Extreme Flight 60" Airframe for IMAC and mild 3D

Hey all, been a while since I've been on here, or really even in the hobby. RC flying has unfortunately taken a bit of a back seat to work, and other hobbies I've been neglecting.

I recently sold my 60" Edge to a friend because I was hardly able to use it, and it was just taking up space. This leaves me with my MkII Vanquish, which is a great plane, but it leaves me wanting a little bit more...

I really miss the size and quality of the 60" airframes. I'd like to get another one, but this time, I'm not so interested in 3D flying as I am with IMAC/scale style stuff. For as little as I fly anymore, I just find that more enjoyable, verses 3D, where I can't get to the field often enough to keep those skills where they need to be.

So my question is this: which Extreme Flight 60" airframe would be the best for this? I really think the Extra would be great, but the MX-S and Laser look good, too.

Can anyone recommend, from experience, which one would be the best at this? I understand that none of them will feel as "locked in" as the Vanquish, but I'm sure one is better than the others at precision. My gut says Extra, but I'm open to other options as well.

Thanks,
Eric

Just my humble opinion but I believe the 60" Extra would fulfill your needs nicely. As a side benefit it is a gorgeous airplane in either color scheme. As others will say all of the 60" EF airframes will do exactly what you want them too. If you follow Doc Ausin's setup techniques for sport and precision flying found here http://docaustinextreme.blogspot.com...rt-pilots.html you will surely be satisfied. This was written for the 48" model but most should apply to it's larger brother as well. I hope that this helps.

I agree! The Extra is a lovely airplane for smooth aeros if you set it up right - also imho better than any of the other 60" airframes in this respect. Up the throws and it's a blast at 3D as well

It's a tough choice because the MJXS is so good at precision too, but if I wanted a 60" sport/IMAC plane, I think the Extra has the advantage because it has a longer tail moment.

Thanks all...that was my gut feeling, but I just wanted some other opinions. I love the EF planes...I've had 4 of them over the last few years. I won't buy anything else. Oddly enough, Ive never owned an Extra...looks like I'll be ordering as soon as they get them back in stock.

Here is some food for thought. Best of luck in your decision, you cannot go wrong with any of them.

Hi guys

I've seen this plane fly and it's gorgeous!

Is it legal for basic IMAC at 60" ?

Cheers

Ken

Legal for IMAC Basic, and I hope to IMAC again

Just came across this post.
Yeppers! Basic is great because you can fly pretty much any fixed wing that you want. (plus no Unknown sequence, they just have you fly your Known while the others fly their Unknowns)

Back in early 2011 I flew one contest in Basic with a .90 sized low wing "sport" plane. Worlds Model Super Sport Senior. I was up against about 12 others in Basic, but my guy was the smallest at the contest. I only had it about 2 months prior and didn't practice NEARLY enough... Placed 8th, and it was mostly due to the strong cross-wind from behind. (That was Junior year of high school, heck I didn't even have my drivers license yet! LOL Good times)

I'm looking to get back into IMAC in... oh a year or two. After this last term of college, and a job change. Then I'll probably be getting an Aero Works with a DA from across town! (had a older AW Edge540 w/ 3w-100cc... loved it, but sad story....)
Looking into the Extra 300/260 line, 35-100cc. Not sure. Even kinda like their Ultimate's, buuuuuut towing an airplane trailer with a motorcycle.... 1 wing set might be all I could hack

60" Extras came back in stock just yesterday. They usually sell out pretty quickly, so it's not a good idea to wait around. I ordered mine as soon as I got notice they were back.

I did not build my first 60" Extra, and there are a few areas I know I can improve on the new one. I'll also be running HV servos, so it's going to be sick. I loved my first Extra, so I am really looking forward to the new one.

have you ever flown a plane with the 7245MH servos Doc? If not you are going to love them.

A flew a friend's Laser, but since it was not mine I did not want to lean on it really hard. They did seem really locked in though, nice and smooth, and powerful. Hitec was kind enough to send me a set, so I will be sure to give them a good workout.

Everyone else seems to love these servos, so I am sure I will too. I've still got HS5245MGs in my Edge, MXS and Yak and they are fine, though I would think a servo that costs nearly twice as much would be a big improvement.

One set I have is two seasons old and hundreds of hard flights. still working great. And they are going in my new ef 60'' yak. I only ever had to send one back to hitec. I burnt up the motor in one after only two flights with it. Must have just been a bad motor from the get go. Hitec replaced it free of charge and all has been good since.
