0-60 in 3.7 sec would be fun. Best I've managed with the Grand National is 0-60 in 3.9 sec. How's the balance in the corners with the V10 in the back?

I'm getting 3.2 0-60 with the auto, the manual is slower. The handling is truly supercar level. The wheelbase is long and the engine is tucked as far forward as possible. The quattro system make that sucker stick and yet it will still let the back wiggle and come out to play when pushed, but it'll never come all the way around on you. It's the first supercar that can be driven all day long. Even the Lambo version of the same car beats you to death after about an hour.
I've had fast cars, some even quicker than an R8- but the R8 isn't just quick, it's fast. It's really at home cruising at 150+ effortlessly, which unfortunately we don't get to do.

/\ Nice 540! I love 5 series. Always had a passion for 5 series wagons, and I'd love to have one with the M540 treatment. (For those that don't know, USA never got those).

MGBGT,

0-60 in 3.2 sec. Now, that's quick! Didn't know the auto was that much quicker than the stick. Bet she's a real neck-snapper out of the hole when the diffs lock up & all of that torque hits the pavement. I haven't had the opportunity to drive anything that accelerates quite that hard, but I've spent a few hours in an unlimited aerobatic plane that could accelerate a bit quicker, at just over 1 G. I've always been a bit of an acceleration addict, I guess. You mentioned that Quattro is tuned to allow the rear to come out & play, but not let it come around. Sounds like they achieved the Holy Grail of AWD - a perfect balance between stability, agility, and precision. Very nice, indeed!

Rickyd,

Love the 540! Looks nice & mean in all-black. (Being a Grand National guy, I sort of have a thing for black-on-black cars.) Any mods?

Joel

Awesome 540! Really, truly a beautiful car-

Joel- The R8 has a viscous coupler, but using the ABS system it'll move torque where it needs it- up to 70% to the front, but typically will bias the rear heavily. The tail gets loose and suddenly the front will yank it straight again... very cool.
I've flown some big HP planes and they are even more fun than a high HP car. Today I got to play with an Aventador. Never liked it in pictures, but in person- it's nice. Not really my style though since they went overboard with the angular styling- even the gas cap. The engine compartment is unreal...

As she sits today. My 355 powered 83 Camaro... Put a lot of work into this car this past year, and I have been rewarded with the most enjoyable daily driver I could have ever hoped for. Very underestimated car... Trailer trash to some... Treasure to this guy!

I rebuilt the stock 5 speed trans with harder gears, but the case has a lot of flex under load, so by the end of this month I am hoping to get my hands on a T56 to throw in!

Engine area, before my C5 wheel swap.

Very nice! No, no car is trailer trash when it's well cared for and clean. I bet those are fun to drive.
