What is a "friends list"

Can anyone explain the" friends list"? What is the dif. between PM and "FRIENDS". What is the advantage? I don't even know enough to ask the right questions.

PM is Private Message. Just an e-mail, through RC Groups, to the person. Only he can see it, unlike a public post in a thread.
I don't use Friends, but there must be some connection, like you would get a message if someone on your Friend list started a thread, or posted to a thread.

I don't know what the "friends" thing is either.

I use the PM's a lot to get messages off to other people though. It's easy to use and private---.

Thanks all,I have been using PM for the same reason.(works good for me)A member asked me to befriend him.I asked for details and he didn't really know any more than me.Unless I know the benefit,I think a "PM FRIEND" is just as good a friend. NO?

I don't think there are any advantanges to the friend list, other than
members can view your friend list to see who you are connected to...

That's it? That's all there is? Not even a token prize? No parting gifts?

Thanks OBW for not mentioning the name of the dummy that didn't know either.

I used to wonder what the friends thing was for. At one time I thought maybe people on your freinds list would be notified when you started a new thread, or something.

But I have never seen that happen. Over the years I have received "Friend Requests" and I always approve them. No reason to not have friends, lol. And as it turns out, no skin off my nose either. I cannot see any purpose for this "feature" whatsoever. Except to see a + sign next to someones user name.

I did unfriend the guy that kept asking to buy a Midwest Cranberry Lobster boat.
I didn't think I could support his ongoing requests, and Non purchase of items offered.

Friends?!?! BAH HUMBUG! If you don't have friends, you don't have to worry about pleasing them.

I have a few here, even some people who I had to put on the ignore list. I think the advantage is that people feel like you're their friend even if you're just a casual acquaintance.

And I guess hobbies are supposed to make us feel good.

I've got a good teacher, Karl. Are you guys still getting drenched up there? Could you send a little down our way?

Maybe its also a way to personally extend a "welcome" to a new member who seems like they might be a valuable contributor to the group.

Drenched? Andy, it's dryer than a popcorn fart here. All we've had are a few teasing dribbles, and not enough to do any good.

Went through your area a couple of weeks ago, and it looked worse than here---.
