02-01-2007: Version 1.3 now available. New DSP filtering eliminates glitchy operation on models that have "noisy" ESC signals.
11-11-2007: Yes, PowerZone is still available.

Start of original discussion:

What if I said that you can upgrade your Stryker/P-51 to brushless *without* replacing the ParkZone R/C system? You know, keep the servos and Rx and just slap on a new brushless motor and controller. Fast and easy. And the X-Port interface still works, so you can still use the popular combat module and other X-port accessories. How does that sound?

All it takes is a little interface board that is slightly bigger than a US dime. The board has a standard servo connector on it that the Brushless ESC plugs into. It also has a single wire that goes to the original black motor lead. That is all there is to it. You can use any regular Brushless ESC that has a BEC (the popular Phoenix 25 is a reasonable choice for these models).

I'm working on pricing (it will be under $30 or so) and I will be releasing it in a few days. In the meantime, let's have a contest to name the new brushless interface board. Keep in mind that it is small, easy to use, and works only with the ParkZone Stryker and ParkZone P-51 R/C system.

So far I'm leaning towards "JetPac." However, I'll bet one of you folks can do better. If I use your name entry, you will earn one of these little boards at no charge (Free, nada).

For more name-it inspiration, below is a photo of the brushless interface board.

It sounds great. I assume you have tested it? I don't get how it works tho because the ESC that is connected to the RX in the stryker will try to LVC too late right? Or does the brushless ESC override it?

I'd have to see it completely hooked up but if it works, that's pretty cool.

I'll start...

Speedzone
Zonelink
ZoneControl ( I kinda like that one best)

I'm sure I can think up a few more.

Neat idea, BTW. Out of curiosity could this thing convert a normal (ie. Castle Creations) ESC to handle a brushless?

The LVC is actually determined by the new brushless ESC's settings. FWIW, the early ParkZone Rx's did not seem to have a true LVC and will operate down to very low voltages (mine goes below 5V). The newest Rx's have a LVC that provides 5.7V and 8.8V cutoffs. Just set the Rx jumper to 5.7V and program the intended LVC into the ESC instead. BTW, do not exceed a 3-cell LiPO or the servo life might be reduced.

All the features of your chosen brushless ESC are still supported. Things like LVC, prop braking, softstart, and the like, all work according to the ESC's original instructions.

It is specifically designed for the special R/C system that is used on the Stryker and P-51. ParkZone may introduce more models with this particular radio system, but until then, that is all it will work with.

Those are some great product names! Keep 'em coming. I'll keep the contest open for a few days and then announce a winner.
