Tilde converted to HLG

I want to build a SAL glider. I've been leaning toward the Little Nipper or the Bug. From everything I've read the Little Nipper is probably better for my purposes, but I need to build a foam cutter and learn how to use it (unless someone in the SF Bay Area wants to cut me some cores).

In the meantime, I have a Tilde that I'm thinking about converting to a glider. The Tilde is an EPP flying wing with a 26" wingspan and 180 sq. in. of area.

My understanding of SAL gliders is that in order to throw them by the wing they need a vertical tail that extends equally above and below the center of the wing. My idea was to put a vertical tail on the Tilde (like on the Red Herring). I could put it right against the tail, or out on a small boom.

I figure that my Tilde as a glider will weigh about 3.5oz or so.

Does anyone think this would work? How big would the tail have to be? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
