5.8 gives a better picture, but you need 5.8GHz Circular Polarized Antenna
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...t_Antenna.html Something like these will work well, you can make youre own. With good antenna you should be able to get good distance. I think the record is over 20kms with 200mw on 5.8 now. |

There are tons of info out there you just have to do some research.
![]() There are advantages and disadvantages to the frequency you choose. Remember to keep it simple. Start basic and see if you even like it. Some people make the mistake of starting out with all the bells and whistles and hate the experience before they get started. ![]() Happy flying. |

Starting simple is very good advice.
Get one of these cameras. They're only $45. These 1.2G sets are cheap and popular coupled with a patch on your video receiver will go far. With just the antennas supplied you can fly easy 3kms. If you are happy to stay inside 2km with clear line of sight, you can't beat this 5.8G set with a set of SPW's. I think HobbyKing might even be selling them now. Nothing that is legal for video is much chop. |

I would add that you need to check what kind of flying you want to do. If its Quads, you will most probably be flying close to the ground and in and around trees. This is where 1.2Ghz has advantages over 5.8Ghz - If its fixed wing then 5.8Ghz will be a better choice. I normally fly at around 300 feet ( keeping below 400 feet always ) and do some aerobatics etc and have a perfect signal 95% of the time. The 5% gets RH interference but clears within a second or two so never a concern. Also, if you choice to go with Fatshark goggles like most do as it provides a much more immersive flying experiences with the addition of head tracking and portability ( two MUST haves for me ) then you will need IMRC gear as foxtech uses a different 5.8 band and will not work.
As has been stated, start out as basic as you can. The Fatshark Predators come with everything and are great and cheap ! Keep legal aswell and don't fly over any thing your not prepared to crash on and deal with the consequences. Have fun ! |
