Inlet Ring Design

Going to try something out on my Slymaster Sabre, struggling with high battery and ESC temps, so going to look at going with a half unducted system.
Duct inlet directed to the fan with about 150mm gap between them and the Inlet ring. I will stick the ESC in the airflow and batteries will be in the vicinity but not directly getting airflow.

I've knocked up an intake as shown below (as well as polishing off a cupcake !!!). I've made it so air speeds up to the inlet. I've seen a number of different designs, I've got a radius on the lip, some have been a very round and large radius others a bit more simple.

How does mine look below to the big brains out there ??

Cheers

The cross section should resemble a Clark-Y airfoil. With the base of the airfoil facing outside of the fan.

so what are the pros and cons with using an inlet that stops short of the fan w/an intake ring vs. no ducts at all w/an intake ring vs. fully ducted?
I know that fully ducted will give you the best top end, right?

Right. Any turbulence results in thrust loss both static and dynamic.

I'm sure there is some losses doing half ducting. Speaking to a learned friend in such things with a lot of experience with edf send he said he couldn't tell the difference when he flew with full ducting and half ducting (with a ring).

I don't think I gave the courage to try it with no ducting at all. Might add that to my testing on the weekend. But would have to make everything is tied down well.

Could this be an advantage of the new multi blade fans being a bit more flexible on the installation ???
