Build Log
"Ultra Flyer" A Free Flight Foam Glider Conversion!

Hello Yall

This post is a build Log for my newest RC plane, the Ultra Flyer Glider!
I usally build my own foam board designs, but after many failed W+B issues with my own designs, I got tired of building and thought... you know what, Il buy one of those $8 foam gliders from walmart and convert it to RC!

I had my first Maiden this morning with 2 great flights, Il add the video to this post!
I am highly impressed with this plane, and hope to get a folding prop here soon, till then im using a 9x4.7 slow fly prop.

Build List:
1040kv Brushless motor
14-18A ESC
7.4 1350 Lipo
4-6 9g servos (6 if u want flaps, alerions, elevons, and throttle)
Bambo scures
Rubber bands

Have fun flying, its a very simple build, with great flight charateristics, very cheap, but great astetics too!

Wow. I know the gliders you are talking about. This is an awesome idea. Now to see how cheap you can make the components and these could be awesome expendable trainers.

What's the AUW of just the basic foam glider without any RC modifications?

Yeah it is one of my new favorites, very cheap, very light! I think that the glider weight b4 rc conversion is some where between a quarter and a half pound maybe? i know i was VERY impressed with the light weight of this plane both b4 and after conversion!

Wait a sec. My FoamJack has nearly the same AUW, so it could use the same cheapo power system I bet. (If anyone's interested, I'll post it here). The predecessor to that one flew really nice with that motor.

Awesome idea, yes please post it here lol
I know they make a 24" foam glider like my 42" on, but for it to be max effective,
You need to use a tiny brushless motor like whats on that parkzone micro F-27?
That lil thing rawrs, and it looks like it weights nothing! I wish i had that kinda set up for misalnious builds

We used to convert those to electric years ago. I remember we had about ten up in the air having a racer. Looked funny when they all had brushed power and only flew about 20 mph.

After I finish my current foamy build, I'm probably gonna take the power system out of it and move it to one of these.

That park you were flying in looked like a park near me. I sorta hoped you were in the san francisco area.

But we have to see how cheap we can make these gliders. For eight bucks, that walmart price is hard to beat. And they don't seem like bad quality foam either. I would order ten of these and have some real slope combat .

Have you tried a couple of blocks west of OIA at the south end of Southport Park?
At daybreak on the weekends there is a bunch of people flying.
Send me a PM if you want more info.
