Thanks,

You can run all sealed up. But you have to open up the hatches and let everything cool between flights. You should also limit flights to about 5 or 6 minutes.

I found this to be a pain so have always subsequently provided cooling. Either a small airflow created by a scoop made from half a plastic spoon, with suitable exit behind the ESC or an external heat sink.

I'd really like to build this plane but Staples will not print the plan because of copyright
Can I get something in writing saying it's OK??

Show them post #3 in this thread, by the designer Steve Shumate (Jetset44), which clearly invites people to have the plans printed.

Insist. It's a wonderful model!

You might want to look for a local graphics shop. I use one that specializes in printing plans for contractors. They charge me $0.25 per square foot and can print 3 foot by whatever you need. So a 3' x 5' plan is $3.75 and you don't have to tape anything together!

If they won't do it, try Kinkos. They had me sign a copyright thing taking responsibility for any infringement, but were willing to print it.

I sent moon12 a statement via PM, hopefully that works. Next time I share a design, I'll change the copyright statement so this is never again an issue! I'll include a statement that says, "These plans may be printed or copied without restriction for personal use only".

The Polaris EX from Model Aero is set up to take either a prop or a Lander fan and flies beautifully either way. It's a much more practical arrangement than the standard Polaris.

Polaris EX EDF at the Lake 2014-07-17 (4 min 7 sec)

Of course EDF takes a lot more power and thus a bigger and higher C battery than a prop version. My EX with prop flies for 7-8 minutes on a 3s 2200 25C, but with EDF it flies 4-5 minutes on a 3s 2800 40C. It's about 50% heavier with EDF.

I would not suggest a 75% version as it would be hard to keep the weight within reasonable limits (75% means half the weight for similar wing loading). My 75% Polaris weighs 11oz RTF and I wouldn't want it too much heavier.
