You should check the AMYA clubs page
http://www.theamya.org/clubs/
to look for local clubs in your area. Not sure of the geography up there in your area, but you will be able to gauge distances more effectively than I can.

I can certainly advise you to go through the recent postings on Nirvanas in this forum as there are lots of great tips for skippers of the new 2014 boat. The adjustments that we have found to be helpful for some boats, especially in routine use in heavy weather, will let you keep sailing in strong winds.
