Yak 54 - Gas 33cc Evoloution- Build

Hi all,

Well i decided to go with a 'budget build' airframe for a change and i must say even though this one was half the cost of other similar airframes we see on the market today, i am quite impressed.

I am building this for 3D & aerobatic flight,so let's see how it all goes.

Doing a new build (well almost done now) so i got this plane from someone locally who had no time to build it and had it sitting in his house for sometime without even opening the box,the funny part is i am not 100percent on the make it looks like a Hobbyking but it says Peak model on the box so....... well there it is.
The model came with carbon fiber wing spar and alloy landing gear with black wheel spats & a decent hardware kit.

Ok some build pics,i am using a 2s high voltage optipower set up,simple and quick with Hitec 5785MH Digital high torque servos.

It is fitted with the pitts muffler slyled Evo 33cc Gas engine.

I had some challenges along the way,i had to make up my own stand off's it needed to be bought out from the firewall approx 50mm,also i had to make up a carbon floor for the tank and i used some carbon fiber mounts for fuel dot, switches and fuel vent line under fuse as there is no mounting areas available,so this worked nice,i also decided to use stronger hardware linkages to aileron and elevators, upgrading the hinges to stronger ones and using thicker bolts then and rods from servos.

The plane looks fine quality,i went along most of the joints i could for extra security with some CA just to be on the safe side.

I am happy with this plane and it looks fantastic, the airframe is narrow and not as high as my last 35cc gas plane so the power to weight ratio could be intresting.

Where i choose to fit my fuel tank and add the flight packs the plane balanced on the CG (wingspar) first go perfect

Some pics....as you can see i also went and used a lot of 'spot on' rc bling and the whole thing was then complimented with a 20x8 carbon PT prop and carbon spinner.

Stay tuned for a build video and flight all in one to follow soon too!

As you can see from the pics i had to remove and refit and change engine standoffs many times, but for it right to suit in the end.'

The cowl was also a challenge, allthough one side under most had to be removed to suit the pitts muffler and i think it looks pretty class anyway when you can see all of that cool Evo exhaust.
This cowl wasn't intended for use with a pitts style muffler.

Onwards and hopefull upwards......

As you can tell from one of the above pics the summer we are having here in ireland is pretty sad..... so no better time for this job!

As for now the build is done, but i need to check over it,lastnight i seen some things i wanted to change and improve, such as washers over balllinks that didn't come supplied in case they pull out in flight, yeah unlikely but i like to be thourough anyway....

So i will be back with more updates!

I just fitted a new plug to the Evo engine and hope to fire it up asap.

As you can see there i upgraded the control horns to ones twice as thick, room to change servo rod angle now also,i can move a control horn to left or right to suit if needs be.

Also looking a little tidyer now in and around the airframe.

I hope to update this thread with a lot of pics and videos,as it's my first 'budget' airframe build i am excited to see how this goes compared to the last more expensive gas airframe i had.

From research this is an early Peak model, which are a very very good quality plane,i have been told this from a competition flyer here who has had a few of the kits and said they were very impressive, you can still get much cheaper and i presume far less quality kits again than these from the far east side.

Now ,i might be true in saying that even HK did stock or i'm not sure if they still stock these early peak models and brand them there own!
just speculating here, they look very similar on both sites, peak model and HK as far as i know still sell this same kit.

Dan,

What are the specs on the plane?

Looks similar to my 60" Aeroworks Yak.

Thanks lads for the comments,to be honest i myself am very intrested in this one to see how it goes, considering the airframe just costs 250euros to buy it was a steal..... it's half the price of the last 35cc class airframe i got.

I can just say so far that the quality is fantastic,i had no issues with the build, the airframe is quality where needed in all the right areas, for sure the company who produce these models have a lot of skill in making these and i would have no problem going back for another in the future....

All though i won't speak too soon,i will wait and report back after a few flights! lol

FF,
Thanks buddy for the kind words,as you can tell i'm fairly passionate about flying.

Ensign,
I posted as much info as i have right now but i will check it for you.

Cheers
Dan
