I have a Great Planes Escapade that was put together with parts from another plane.They are a futaba receiver and futaba servos#s3004.I noticed the receiver battery pack is not holding a charge as long as it should.I would like to replace it.The present one is a 4.8 volt.Should I replace it with another 4.8 volt or up to a 6 volt?Thanks for any replies.

The first time you lose a plane because of a weak battery will be the last time you ask this question. Never be loyal to a battery. Compared to the cost of the plane with all the equipment on board, plus your time, the cost of a battery is minor. Get a new one!

6v's is great and all, but not needed!

if you like ta tear it up, then by all means, step-up ta a 1600ma 6v!

you will have alot of poeple tell ya ta go A123's which I spose would be fine, but if you don't have the chargers, not needed!

I know that it needs to be replaced.Just wanting opinions on the servos voltage.Will a 6 volt battery pack burn them out earlier than a 4.8 volt or will the 6 volt be fine?

If I go with the 4.8 volt,what mah do you recommend?

1400 ta 1600 would be plenty for all day flying!

and them futabas are just fine with 6v.s I run 6v on most of my planes, with everything from s148's too 3004's never had a problem!

I've been using 6v with my Futaba and 3004's with no problems at all.

If so, do you use a regulator ?

I may have been in this hobby since the Ice Ages, but I've been reluctant to make the move from 4.8 nicads, let alone jump to 6 volts. LOL

in my case Tom, I am using 5 cell ni-cads! use the same chargers been charging with since the 80's , as far as I know futaba recievers and servo's have been 6v compatible since then! and as all I have ever used is futaba till this last go around in the hobby, I have been upgrading all my old batt's to 1600ma 6v ni-cads!

and no regulators!

I have been using these LiFe Rx batteries and have been very happy. Unlike lipos that can be stored at full charge. Picture on hobbyking is wrong the last batch I received came with two jr connectors and one balance plug. They are lightweight and easy to place in most models. And best of all the price is great, I have only lost one out of 6 because I left my Rx turned on over night and killed the battery. Otherwise they are great, I use no voltage regulator just straight into the switch to the Rx.

I think that I will gradually replace my batteries to 6 volt. My 4.8 packs are dying, so it's time to update.

The Hawkeye and the Hoosier seem to like the LiFe batteries, but, for now, I'll stick with the more traditional batteries, as does Whisky.

Your servos are safe. I have six planes with Futaba s3004s and s148s servos. They all are running on A123 6.6 volt (7.2 volts fully charged) batteries. I use 1100mah in my 60 to 90 size planes and 2300 mah in my 150 size planes.

Since I changed to A123s I have never charged a battery at the field.

I've got life batteries on a H9 hellcat and li-on batteries in my 1/5 wayco. Life batteries are nice you won't need a regulator but when they are discharged, they drop fast so you need to monitor how much mah you use each flight so they don't get too low
