I thought the Sbach was a 342?

I'm not a Hobby King fan and have never have flown their balsa planes, BUT, this plane looks great, I love the scale scheme. Not worth ordering unless they carry it in the USA warehouse.

I just ordered one as well. It looks really well built and being an Sbach it should fly great. I have a heap of spare motor / esc combo's I could put in. Yet to decide what to go with. Maybe a Power 32 or Power 46 and a 75 amp speedie.

This will replace the HK 1530mm balsa Sbach thunderbolt scheme that I totalled after clipping the top of a tree going into a loop from an inverted position. It ripped off half my right wing and all of the aileron - and guess what....it didnt fly well after that and went in at a real good pace. Luckily the OS motor and CC ESC are both fine. BTW before I put it in it was an absolute gem of a plane to fly and for $150 was money well spent.

Lets hope that this model is a similarly good flier!

I'll be putting in a Hacker A40-10SV2 800kv, a CC Ice 100 Lite, external BEC. Will run a 14x7 APC or 15x6 APC for a prop and a 4S 3000mAh battery.

This is a bulletproof power system and it's migrated through a few of my models as I tend to eventually do something stupid to wreck the airframes! Luckily the motor's never taken the brunt of my crashes!

Here's some photos of my Sbach just before a successful maiden flight and two more consecutive flights. The photos aren't the greatest, I was using a HobbyKing wingcam to take photos and video. Video didn't turn out the greatest, just not very good resolution from the wingcam.

Flights went really well. As stated above, I`m flying with a Hacker A40-10S V2 motor with an APC 15x6 prop, CC 100 Lite ESC, external BEC, and 3300mAh 4s 35C Zippy Compact batteries, (gives me 5min flight time). 26g Solar digital MG servos all around except one 52g for the rudder, which is a pull-pull system that came with the plane.

For a HobbyKing model it's very good quality. It seems they've been listening to us again and built this one with Carbon Fiber landing gear and also beefed up the landing gear attach point with carbon fiber tubes running through an aluminum channel that the landing gear attaches to, all cradled in the light ply/balsa construction. This spreads the load from the landing gear over a greater area than just the attach point. Also has a nice extruded carbon wing spar and probably one of the highest quality plastic spinners I've seen come with an HK model.

I had one major issue though, the motor mount seems too large for the cowling. When I test fit the cowling it sat "nose up" because it contacts the top of the motor mount box. So I took the whole thing to a belt sander and sanded the front of the box area down. I then mounted the motor a tad down from where they determined center was. Overall the motor still looks like it's situated on the thrust line and the cowling fits like it should now, so I'm thinking this was a design flaw.

I added a couple scale details such as the radio antenna on the under-belly, a LED landing light in the underside cowl opening, the aileron spades, aluminum exhaust pipes exiting the cowl underneath and the aerobatic sights on the end of the wings. I made the sights removable so I don't destroy them in transporting the thing. However I lost part of the right wing sight in the first flight, probably during one of my high energy snap-rolls, I'll have to remake it a little stronger.

This thing lands SO nicely...just line up, cut the throttle and she coasts in as you add up elevator as she slows down. Perfect 3 point landings every time!

I`m definitely happy with this model. I bought the HK Scratch & Dent offering of this plane for $20 less than the regular offer. Needless to say nothing was scratched and nothing was dented and no hardware was missing.

Weather turned for the crap though, so I`m grounded for now. Hope to get better video when I get out flying again.

Regards...

That plane is manufactured by FLIGHT-MODEL, like some of the balsa planes HK is selling. Two weeks ago I bought that plane with the thunderbolt scheme from their spanish distributor and it's exactly the same plane. They build really nice planes with lot of carbon hardware at relatively low prices.

http://www.flight-model.com/products...ductId=70.html

I'm putting it togheter and my setup will be:
TURNIGY SK3 4250 410Kv
TURNIGY PLUSH 60A
TURNIGY 6S 2.200mAh 30C
Light Wooden prop 15x8 / 14x10
4X Corona CS238MG 4.6kg/ 22g/ 0.14sec
My estimated AUW is 2.110g

Model weight is 1.250g

This is their unboxing video
Sbach 300 EP 55" Flight Model unboxing (5 min 12 sec)

Good job with the manual, thank you.
