NorCal F3F Race Sunday 3/23

Hi everyone,
Let's race this Sunday at Thornton Beach. The weather is supposed to be the same Sunday as it was today. Here's the link to Fort Funston which is about 2 miles north of Thornton:
http://www.flyfunston.org/newwebcam/

Because the weather station is far back from the ridge, you look at the readings for the wind gusts. 15 mph is very different at the coast. It's actually enough wind to a good time. At 15 mph, with a good wind direction, I would probably be adding 4 or 5 slugs for a total weight of between 88-94 oz. The direction should be good, but if it's cornering, those number would come down a bit.

Let' meet at noon and start racing 12:30

- Steve

Here's Directions:
If you have GPS in your car or want to use Google Maps use the Mar Vista Stables address - 2152 Olympic Way, Daly City, CA. This is right where we park.

Once you are parked on Olympic Way you walk through the empty lot just south of the horse stables and take the long 45 degree angle path that goes down the hill right behind the stables. If you magnify the Google Satellite Photo you walk through the 2 white horse trailers south of the main stables right across from where the red car is. Park in the area of the red car and to the south.

Hereís the race recap.

We started racing a little past 12:30, and the wind had already settled into an average 10mph. Although it was light, we still had some low 50ís. The wind started a little south, but basically straight in and ended up just a few degrees to the north at the end of the day.

There was some nice flying today. Ron flew a Pike Perfect to see if the plane would make better use of the light conditions. After he flew on course, he tried to make up for the slower foils with bravery. It was some of the closest, tightest flying Iíve seen in a while. =)

We also had a new racer, Christian Iribarren, come out to fly F3F for the first time today using a Mach Dart. The conditions were definitely challenging for a small plane, but he did a really good job keeping things on track.
Thanks everyone for coming to race!
