X5J eXtreme May 28th,29th Sign-up

News: Same rules as 2010 except SOR rounds have been reduced to 5 minutes

TO ENTER, please post to this thread your ship and power train information, before the days of the contest. During the day of the contest post your scores.
You may fly any or all of the classes below. In general, all classes use flight time - motor time and up to 30 points for landing.

The goal has been to minimize the rules to stress a Unlimited nature for these events, so everyone with an electric sailplane will have an airframe and motor that will meet the rule requirements.

TASK: Fly three 10minutes rounds unlimited and 5 minute rounds in SOR, using only thermal updrafts with an electric motor powered sailplane.

X5J eXtreme UNLIMITED rules:
1. Any airframe, motor, battery, ESC, and prop maybe used.
2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it.
3. 30point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3pts/m

X5J eXtreme SOR rules:

1. Any airframe, battery, ESC, prop, motor with 28mm diameter and 17mm
magnet bell length or less.
2. Flight time has motor run time subtracted from it.
3. 30 point landing tape, in 1 meter increments worth 3 pts/m.

General Rules:

1. Any part of the airframe maybe used to determine max. landing points.
2. Round motor and flight times to closest second.
3. Motor must be running at launch.
4. Each second of flight time is one point, seconds greater than 10minutes are subtracted.
5. First and additional motor runs, one point per second, loss of landing points on second motor run.

Hope you can joins us for the fun.

Things are not looking good for me for the 28th and 29th. We'll see how that goes.

If I can participate, I will, as usual, probably fly an Art Hobby 2M Andromeda, unless too windy. All of my sailplane options qualify for the "unlimited" category.

Yip, probably both classes family permitting.
Vertex for the open and my Apex for the small one.
Apex has recently been rebatteried from NiMH to a 1050 3 cell Lipo. It is two meter span and weighs about 26 ozs. 6 servos. Motor is smaller than it could be with 10mm bell length form memory.
Both models are original designs designed for specific New Zealand electric classes but will work for this event too.
It is winter here but conditions are generally good for flying this time of year.

Got to try the SOR with an Electron Hyperion motor, 2s cells, and a 12 x 8. If our wind finally drops below 10mph for the weekend.

Hope everyone has great weather.

I still have some bugs in my SOR model, so I'll fly my OD#10.

Hi, we flew here late Sunday just before night fall. Cool and calm with the nearby vineyard and river terace giving up heat from the day so the air was just generally helpfull. I flew Apex and Kelvin flew his very cheap and cheerfull Chinese ARF. They are great for the money though.
I was able to progressively reduce engine runs as I kept having height to burn . Last run was 16 seconds. Scores were 298, 308, 302. Only one 30 landing.

Results

Allan Knox SOR 908 pts.
Kelvin Maffey SOR 724 pts

well the weather in michigan isnt going to let me fly in this contest. yesterday it was Super windy until late in the day. I grabbed the new art hobby plane (only flew once) and did some trimming. I also added Flaps so i had to set those up. Well to make a long story short never did get a clock going..
Hope everyone else got in great flights..

The radian is packed and ready to go to flying field if the rain stops and wind holds off..

Just did some landing practice with my Paragon this evening. Unlimited class.

F1 - 3:41 - 15 motor - 27 land = 233
F2 - 4:33 - 17 motor - 30 land = 286
F3 - 3:40 - 17 motor - 0 land (short) = 203

Total score: 722

A lot of cloud cover starting at 2pm some lift but not organized low, 60's with the wind going from 8mph to zero while we were flying and rain starting just as we packed up.

Mcramer Unlimited

1. 596 + 24 - 37 = 583
2. 597 + 24 - 31 = 590
3. 597 + 27 - 30 = 594
total 1767

Rburson SOR

1. 299 + 21 - 22 = 298
2. 298 + 27 - 23 = 302
3. 298 + 27 - 20 = 305
total 905

Hope everyone could fly, I will post the final standings tonight.
