First time building help

I am needing some help with building a micro plane out of balsa. I am wanting to build something that can use the Ember 2 or Micro P-51 electronics. I have experience with building simple foam models but don't have any using balsa. If you have any simple plane plans I could really use them. Also what is the best type of balsa to use and what is a good thickness. I have been using 2mm and 3mm depron.

Thanks, Tyler

What kind of plane? Glider? Scale? Biplane? Acrobatic?
There are many threads with free plans, that take that type of electronics.

I'm looking for a citabria or cessna type plane. Im guessing thats scale. I wouldn't mind a sport plane. Just want to build something that flies well.

Can anyone link me to a brushless esc and small brushless motor that would work with a small plane. I have experience with brushless systems I just can't find any ~5g motors and esc's.

What size. When you say a Cessna that could mean alot... Like 15 inches? or smaller?
Try hobby king for that, they carry lots of motors and stuff.

I am wanting it be under 15".

I know of hobbyking but I'm just not sure what a good motor is because the reviews seem to be mixed.

With HK anything is mixed. But you are paying $5 for a motor so...
I think that if you did a search of small plane builds on here you would get quite a few threads.
Good luck

I hav bought quite abit of stuff from them. Most of it was pretty good. I haven't tried any of there motors though.

I found the plane that I want and there was even plans to download. So I think that I am good for now. I am going to hobbytown tomorrow to buy balsa and glue. I'll post pics once I build it.

Have a look at these sites for more free plans, if you go to the first one then click 'free flight models' and scroll down a bit you'll find some smple planes ideal for a beginner with balsa. The site explains how to print directly onto the wood with a printer so you don't even need to decorate the plane after it's built. If your printer won't take the wood you can print onto tissue and attach that to the balsa instead.
