Tiger 400 - lead required for CG

I'm just about finished assembling a Tiger 400 with the standard stuff and a Hitec Micro 5 receiver, HS55 servos, and will be using 1250-1320mah 3S Lipos.
It appears I need about 2 ounces of lead in the nose? Anyone else encounter this. Seems like a lot of weight to add to such a small model?

Tigers have long tail moments, short noses. I woudn't be surprised some nose weight is needed, especially with Lipos.
Can yuu move the servos forward... or go to pull-pull at least on the rudder?
Saving the weight of one long pushrod can be beneficial.

the suggested center of gravity is wrong... I added 1.8oz to the nose
of my first one to get it 10mm back from where the lower wing meets
the fuse. I now fly at 20mm back w/o the lead, which is about right
for me, and I like a slightly nose heavy plane.

I have about 1/2 stick of clay in the front of mine (no clue on the actual weight this adds ). I use 1320 and 2100 3 cell packs with a himax 2015 4100 motor. The plane will fly great even with a little nose weight.

Sorry I was referring to a Tiger 400 not a Tiger Moth 400. You are right about the GWS Tiger Moth 400 though!

Thank you all for the comments. I don't know what else I can do. I will add the lead.

Don't know the plane, but always start planes nose heavy at least..until you can test them in flight.

More Tiger 400 Mods

I picked one up cheap, it was already crashed, not bad, repaired badly though at least aestheticly, but functional, the seller never built a kit before, so I don't hold him to the workmanship levels as builders. I had a brushed 480 lying around, so opted to cut away the firewall, to accomodate it being recessed in since it's larger and heavier then the stock 400, and brushless it had in place mounts, yanked the lead weights he had in place as well to help make up for this. It's all guessing at placement at this point, it leans foward COG big time, am thinking the battery pack should be positioned back a bit to help make up for it as well.

I also revised the area I cut away adding a couple of layers of epoxy coated 1/16" basswood, one of the layers is bolted on, so I can remove it and the motor, and it adds a ton of strength. Wish me luck on it's maiden, am only winging it, pun not intended at the revisions.

4*60,

If you use the stock s400 motor..................you will burn it up using a 3s lipo pack. Only a few seconds at full throttle will result in smoke.

Fonz,
Are your refering to any stock 400 or the particular one in the Tiger 400. I've got 2 GWS SSs with the 400 and I fly both with 3s 1500 lipos and have never had a problem.

You can get away with 3S on a speed 400 if you gear down or prop down to keep the amps in line.

Yea that seemed too big a statement.........my mistake, I'll clarify,

I was referring to the stock speed 400's in the goldberg eagle 400 and tiger 400. I have both and fried both motors on a 3s lipo. I have to assume that the stock ones are crap since getting one bad one is possible but two from different kits.....seems unlkely.

I wasn't suggesting that all s400 get fried on 3s lipo's but after reading my post afterwards it sure did seem like that.

I guess even the fonz can step on his d%$k.............
