XPS Radio Terminology

There seems to still be a lot of confusion and as a result, misuse of terms. Here are the official definitions and proper usage for various radio related terms:

BIND or BINDING: this is the process where the transmitter and receiver are 'married' together exclusively. You bind only ONE time for the entire life that the transmitter and receiver will be together. You can never 'unbind' a system, but you can re-bind a receiver to a new transmitter by just performing the binding process. The binding is actually done on the receiver side, not the transmitter side.

Not to be confused with CONNECTION. When you lose connection between the transmitter and receiver it does not become 'unbound'.

Sometimes customers state that they were flying and their system became 'unbound'. That is physically impossible. What they are trying to convey is that they lost connection.

CONNECT or CONNECTION: this is what occurs when a transmitter and receiver locate each other and establish a link. In the event of a signal loss, a disconnection occurs.

Not to be confused with BINDING or BOUND.

flashable - firmware can be upgraded by xps themselves (mail in the item for upgrade)

in-field flashable - customer can upgrade the firmware themselves by way of XDP, etc.

for example, the old receivers and modules can be upgraded by XPS if you mail the item in, the Nano's are in-field flashable and can be upgraded by the customer with an XDP.

Slave .. a 2nd rx setup to increase the channel count; or to provide the same channels as the main Rx at a different location in the plane....

Satellite Rx ..... a device dreamed up to increase sales $$ , by "another " manufacturer .....

I wouldn't say "dreamed up".... As I understand it, it was (is?) NECESSARY for the "other" mfg because their inferior system requires it for anything other than park flyers !

slave receiver provides extra channel outputs, but does do by setting up a complete receiver/output package, and each will be subject to finding the signal (ideally they need to be separated from each other by a few inches, etc etc). So conceivably one receiver could get a better signal than the other.

The expander system, the signal receiving/handling is separated from the servo output programming. So one radio receiving unit, will send the signal to be output from the servo output unit (the "channel expander"). In such a fashion, if more servo outputs are required, just "Y" the signal from the radio receiving unit ("RF Unit") and plug in extra expanders... with this, the RF unit can be put in the single best place to receive the signal, and it will send the signal to however many servo output units that you require.

The RF Unit will handle all channels 1-16 (until the new Tx comes out, then the DivBee version of the RF Unit will handle 1-32 channels), and the first version of the servo output unit will be 10 servo output pins. So if you need more than 10 servo outputs, just Y in another one, and you can get 20 output pins for channels 11-16 and still have four servo pins left for duplicates (servo output can be duplicated, running more than one servo output location on the same channel without need for a Y connection (ailerons, elevator halves, rudders on a jet with two fins, etc). On large planes, Y connections can be problematic with power delivery).
