Yippee!
Spring's coming and we picked up a new cruiser!

Bet you thought I bought another motorcycle! Nope, a 17' Alumacraft canoe now resides here with the 1986 Alumacraft V165 fishing boat. There are quite a few fishing lakes in our area with 10hp limits. These quiet lakes and the Tuscarawas river is where she'll spend most of her time. No whitewater for this boat. You rent canoes for the rapids.

A wooden canoe would look so much better on the pine beams but at 61 lbs, the Alumacraft is so much easier to get up there.

Nice canoe!! A good friend of mine has an old wooden one hanging above his bar with lights in it. I like going to the wood boat shows and seeing the wooden canoes. I couldn't see owning one but they are beautiful to admire.

That looks like a nice cabin. Does it sit on any of the Utica Shale? I have several friends who have already cashed in on the hunting grounds they own in SE Ohio.

Yep. With the low prices of natural gas right now things have slowed a bit. I figure why sell now if my neighbors aren't. The gas and oil will be there and it isn't eating much.

Nice little thing, that would be good on my home waters, little or no current, wide rivers, narrow lodes.
I must repair that little Bic dinghy I got given.

I like the freedom of a canoe. A PFD per person. A whistle if I paddle the Ohio or Muskingum rivers or Lake Erie. That's it. With the fishing boat a fire put'er out'er, a distress flag, horn, throwable PFD, 2" numbers on the side......

Awesome canoe. How are those compound curves formed out of sheet aluminium? Manual drawing of some sort? Explosive forming? Surely they're not cast in a mold?

What thickness are those sheets?

With the Tumblehome hull it must have some compound curves. The hull is 1mm braced with five ribs. Weight is 61 lbs.

There, fixed up for me!

I saw plans to build a cedar strip canoe that required about a thousand little brass nails to build that fell in love with the idea of building one. Yea, 300 lbs may be a bit heavy to portage.
