" So you have a replica of a replica ", Yes indeed, good thing is
that the replica still an actual operational full scale plane, so I have
a somewhat scale RC model , the appeal to me was that this
version was easier to replicate because of the smooth/shiny paint
and really minimal scale details, ie, panel lines, rivets, etc.

The original military version whould have nearly impossible to do
correctly as there is no actual pics of Spaete's original "red" Me-163,
all three views are based on speculation on how it should had looked
based on pain/materials at the time, He only flew it one time and had
it repainted!!. Here's the link,

The glider has more BLING

They both look good ... the red was claimed to be standard RLM flat red. They did not have many reds back then, Spaete's friends decided to paint it like that without him knowing. He apparently was a bit annoyed.

All late WWII german fighters had the same problem, paint scheme is now deduced from a few blurry b&w photographs.

Well the weather has been bad lately, hopefully catch a break tomm.
for maiden, got the last details done, found this cheap pilot figures for
$5 at BP Hobbies http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=E1025844
not perfect, but cheap and they had the 1/6 scale, so both Komets
got pilots

Wish me luck, WKYP, Allen(ZRX212)

" red#2 test flight a success "

I spent better part of today waiting on the right conditions for test flight,
we had a strong crosswind and was blowing from the wrong end of the
field , I kept going over all control settings, I found out the reason
for my wings rocking on #1 red after takeoff, my gyro was
reversed , no wonder I could not control it, everytime it rolled the
gyro was kicking more in the same direction !!, I reset the gyro.

Wind died down some, I flew the Green Komet 1st, none event, good
flight. BTW field is short grass, aprox 800-1000 feet usable surface!!.

Ran out excuses!!, centered Red#2 on runway, turned on gyro, held full
up elevator, applied power slowly, perfect straight rollout with no rudder
input, broke ground around 1/2 power, dolly fell off good, continued to full
power, perfect 30 deg. climb out, about 100 ft up gyro off and low rates,
about 5 seconds later reduced power to 1/2 as it was going like a bat out
of hell !!, made a few trimming passes, wind was still a little bumpy for
trimming, only needed one click of up to fly perfect, flew another 5 min, with
low passes, rolls and loops. Set up for landing, came in low and level to
bleed off speed, touch down gentle with aprox. 20 ft slide, perfect!!

My knees where shaking a little, considering Red#1 crash, but it was really
a non event, looking fwd to our all electric event in two weeks

Now to find a new project, off the beaten path of course !!.

Thanks, Allen(ZRX212)

Excellent !

It's nice to hear everything went smoothly !!

I flew mine yesterday and it was tipstalling in the turns ... I need to work some more on the CG or throws, the CG might be too far back and perhaps a bit more expo might help on the throws.

Thanks, Herb., I have settled on 6.25 in max. on CG, seems to work good,
I also been using rudder with ailerons on slow speed turns on landing pattern,
it really helps on preventing tip stalling,

Had some fun with the Komets this past friday, took them to my club
all electric fly-in, only was able to fly green once, as the dolly hung up
and dropped in the dense 12 foot corn surrounding our field, never to
be found , fortunately I have and extra gear.

Red#2 flew perfect, Allen(ZRX212)

Hi Herb

Thank you for your thread about the Me163 and the helpful information inside. It made me buying a Me163 in red . So far all my propeller driven planes have some right thrust and depending on model also some down thrust. What about the Me163. Did you build in any thrust angles?

Thank you for helping me to set up the motor correctly.

Regards from Switzerland

Hi Aldo,

I don't have any right thrust in mine and it seems to work fine. Maybe some right thrust (a degree or so) is needed for a bigger prop, but mine is pretty small.

Good luck with it, it's a great flying model. Let us know if you have any more questions
