Hotliners are awesome
I have just finished setting up an old school one with the intention of FPV'ing it
Not sure mine is fast enough though, it's a Simprop Lift-Off original (1935mm)
Aveox FL10 motor running on 3S with a 17 x 13 prop 1100 watts and around 100 amps
It's fast but not special fast

Oh ya baby

Done three hot liners with countless hours and miles under my belt

F5b hotliners work very well

I started experimenting with hotliners back in 2009ish

Foam was just too slow

I presume they aren't done as much as other platforms because you would be either looking through the prop or have a camera out on the wing.

Would a hotliner outperform your standard funjet/skyfun/stryker setup in any way?

Yes
Cut the throttle and it keeps going at nearly full speed for what seems like an eternity
The sound they make on zero power as they cut through the air is awesome, they won't suffer anywhere near the same torque roll problems
They can be made to go much faster than foamies and for longer duration

I thought Jag's post about how the Australian pylon team was using cheap hobbyking hotliners to practice for F5D tournaments would be worth sharing here too.

Sounds like they are ripping around at a bit under 200mph for $300
Maybe the same setup could be put on one of the mondo cheapo flyfly hotliners like the GL Speedy. 200mph for $200?

pusher hotliner?

What about buying a hotliner wing (wing only) and configuring it like a skyhunter or xuav talon? Wad all your battery and electronics into a tiny homemade fuse.

I'm considering using a Durafly EFX wing (only $20) and pairing it to a homemade fuse built to be a pusher.

What do you guys think?

Cool idea
Been thinking about doing the same with one of my spare sets of pylon wings (got a HK Shark and an Arrow)

My pusher hotliner idea is starting to take a turn for the crazy! Now I am shooting to have the weight of the motor below the wing and a driveshaft from the motor out to the back of the tail. The plane flies so awesome in my imagination itís hard to believe anything could go wrong in real life.
