I follow a great thread called Power Systems for Extreme Flight Fanatics here on RCG. There was some discussion about the very latest firmware for the Edge ESC and the consensus is that it is still restricting power on the 28 pole motors like the A60-6XS. You'd be better off buying a used ICE or ICE 2 controller. I actually found a new CC ICE2 HV80 controller on eBay.

This is an unfortunate situation for Castle - the good news is that the Hacker ESC's have always worked!

hacker a60 6xs v2 question

I was thinking this motor was designed for 6 cell packs and was reading on another forum where a guy was using 8 s packs and am trying to figure out which way to set up. I was going to go with the 3dhs 71" slick and have the a60 6xs v2 with a castle ice 100 and CC Bec pro and was going to use single 6s 5000 mah packs and 35c discharge with a 20x10 prop. But when I ran the calcs on the castles motor diagram it is saying I need to go with a smaller prop. Anyone have some set up recommendations?

Get a CC Ice 100 esc. The edge 100 has lots of problems with the 28 pole motor.

Mrloseth,

Do you know a good place to buy them? They look to be pretty expensive.

Thanks

Jason,
You can of course buy them from us at Aero-Model, or any of our dealers.

The Mezon ESC's are comparable in price to Castle, but as mentioned - they work as they are supposed to

My Edge 160HV is as worthless today as when I bought it a year ago. Waited 6+ months for Castle to put out an updated firmware which proved to be a worthless as the Edge HV. Castle even had the nerve to say the problem is my Hacker Q80. Shows just how little CC knows about Hacker motors.

So late last year I bought a Jeti Spin PRO 200 (I think Jeti & Hacker/Mezon must collaborate closely together because their ESC's look strikingly similar.) Anyway, my Spin Pro works flawlessly and in all honesty, with all of the problems Castle has had over the past three years, I will probably never buy another CC ESC. The only thing I miss is the extensive logging feature of Castle ESC. But that isn't enough to draw me back to buy their ESC's.

The bottom line is buy a Mezon or Jeti ESC and stop throwing your money away.

I am swapping out the Edge 100A too! CC should have had this 28 pole issue fixed by now!!

Going to try out this Hobbywing 100A HV ESC. A guy at my club seems to like the Hobbywing ESCs. It may prove to be a inexpensive option compared to the Hacker/Mezon ESC's.

I ordered through this US distributor:

Once you have received the HW ESC and have had a chance to try it out, please post and tell us what you like/dislike about it. What motor will you be using with this ESC?

Sounds good. Will report my results with the HW 100A ESC. I will be using it with my hacker A60-6XS. 3DHS 71" Slick airframe.

I ran mine today with a soar 20-10 and a xoar 20-8 and an APC 19-10 and I felt like the APC was the best choice for a 10 lb 3dhs extra 330 72" ws. What is an acceptable temp for this motor? I can fly 5 min and have 37-40% of battery life left on a 5300mah align 40c discharge battery.

Hacker A60-6XS‏

I had an A60-6XS on a 3DHS 74 Edge. Even with a 21x10 it felt weak. I never even tried a 20X10. But the Edge is probably a pound heavier than the 330 SC. I would recommend a Xoar 21x10 for the 330 SC as long as you have the ground clearance. Will pull about 90A which is still ok for an ICE 100. I had to put an APC 20.5X12 on it to get anything close to the power I wanted but that was pulling 105A max. It got to about 178F on an 85F day. I opened up the canister tunnel and max temps dropped to about 150F so I recommend that.
