Hi folks,

Does anyone have a manual for one of the Tartan engines - specifically the twin, glow version?

Enya .099 - .25 ABC Engine Manual, Circa Early 1980's

I am not an engine expert by any means. I gather that the Fuji 099S-II, from where the instructions came from, is a rare engine in that it is an ABC baffle piston engine. It has the same horsepower as the Enya 09-III and 09-IV baffle piston engines of .16 HP, but it has a lower compression of 5.5:1 whereas the Enya has 7.5:1. Maximum RPM is listed as 12,500. In contrast, the Enyas have a compression ratio of 7.5:1 and maximum RPM at 13,000, which lends me to believe the compression value is correct (hand flipping reveals lower compression than my Enya 09-III TV and OS Max .10 R/C), and that it is not Schneurle ported. In contrast, the OS .10LA ABN has .27 HP, the AP Hornet .09 has .25 HP. Attached are several pictures of this engine.

30-Nov-2012 - There is a typographical error in the instructions. Where it states, 3) Open the needle valve as follows according to the engine size. 099 engine - Full turns, this should be Four (4) turns.

Hey Guys,I am new to this site ,not to sure how to get to proper area about prop sizes,maybe yall can help me. I have an 40 size cessna with a os 50 on it.I am trying to slow it down a little with a prop,i had a 12 - 8 on it.What is the best prop size to fly this plane with not so fast but still have the power up front? HELP.

You could simply mount the prop backwards. That reduces its efficiency so it won't develop as much thrust.

Is your engine the OS 50SX Ring? Per manual (attached), standard prop sizes are Sport: 11✕6~10,12✕6; Aerobatic: 12✕7~9

You have it set up for aerobatics. Smallest sport prop is an 11x6. I don't know if that will help to tame it to your liking but it's worth a try.

You did not say where it was to fast so I'll speculate that it's to fast on the ground.

If that's the case you can use a 12 x 5 or 12 x 6. I really think that a 12 x 8 is too much prop for a 40 sized Cessna. I would think that you should be using 11inch props on that bird even with the 50 sized engine.

If it's to fast in the air - throttle back. You don't have to run the plane a full throttle the entire flight.

Gilbert 074 and 11 Thunderhead Instruction Manual

Attached are the instructions for both the A.C. Gilbert Thunderhead .074 and .11 engines. Although the instructions contain labeling for the .11, the instructions cover both. (I have the .074 one also, and it has the same instructions.) I have attached scans in both color and black & white. For those with limited Internet bandwidth, the BW one is less than 100 kb.

I'm thinking that the throttling range may be too sensitive for him, then the 11x6 prop would be the better choice. That is a common prop for the 40's/46's.

OS fs 40

Though mentioned a number of times, I have yet to find a manual for the OS FS 40 -- pre Surpass. I am trying to not use Hobbico unless absolutely necessary. If I find one through a source other than here, I will post a copy on this thread so that others can access.
