Currently building an aeronaut rafale, 120mm EDF 10cell with maybe an option for a lightweight 12cell.

Was wondering where is your battery placement as your pics don't show.

just in the front of the splitted inlet duct stick in between
but this one is way bigger than the aeronaut
i also have a aeronaut rafale on twin 70mm 2w30 on 2- 8cells with vasafan
flies super nice and pretty fast with this set up!!
all my batteries are in front on this one ,
i use to have 2 90mm in it in the past but to heavy ! lipo's were also in the front
under cockpit
never used canard on this one...

here's also videos

rafale aeronaut bunjee take off 2/ 2w30 het motor 3900 watts (0 min 8 sec)

this one was is the 90mm fans
rafale aeronaut, slow speed pass (0 min 49 sec)

Mine also has the batteries between the inlets and would love to use the same canard mechanism as your Avonds has but the torque rod is in the way of the batteries, may have to go to individual servo setup.

HI, I have done the conversion. Used a schubeler HST 94 fan on 12s 5300mah gens ace packs (3x 5300 4s packs) , hobbywing 120HV ESC and E-flight 60-120 electric retracts. All-up weight came to 8.7kg. first flights was with open ducting with lip on fan and it went very well, then I made some full ducting and it is faster and requires less throttle to cruise. No bad habits, slows very nice for landings and is a joy to fly! The HST fan really needs 14s to reach optimum performance, but I fly with only 12s and still recorded a speed of 220km/h. I fly with the CG just in front of the forward former in the fan compartment.

Avonds Rafale, schubeler 94HST on 12s (4 min 32 sec)

ahhh! thanks!! at least one guy did it already
thanks for the info !!
i tried yesterday to maiden it but it didn't took off the puffy grass we have at the moment at the field
just have to wait for the lawnmower session ......
i did the same thing for the fan lip with open ducting
did u feel a big difference with a close duct??? or it's just sensitive??
witch motor do u use ??
i have a NEU 1527 1.5y on 12cells
seems to be a bit slow to me ...

I have a Avonds Rafale too.
It's a bit heavy because of repairs after a crasch but it flies great.
It's got a XPS dynamax, Jeti spin200 and 14s 6600.
It weighs ca:9,5kg. The speed is arround 270 km/h.
One problem I had in the beginning was that it wants to jump in the air on takeoff.
But after I moved the maingear forward, made sure it sat in a positive stanse and pointed the exhaust up a bit it works great.

More than one! I used a HST94-600 schubeler in mine. With the open ducting she needed a lot of throttle to fly (cruise) but with proper closed ducting she went a lot better and cruising was at a smaller throttle setting, so I would say the closed ducting worked better and more efficient. In your photos it looks like it would be very easy to make the ducting closed? I also made a single oval shaped exhaust.

thank jacojet and mikael!!
i don't have much time for the moment to make a decent inlet duct, so i ll gonna try to make a second test this week end , but i begin to believe the NEu motor was not a good choice!!

how much your motor draw and how much watts it produce on 12 cells jacojet?

Gianni, not a good comparison here because you guys are using entirely different Schübeler fans.
Your DS-94 "HDT" is 120mm with 4blades, and your chosen motor Neu1527/1.5Y

Jacojet is using the DS-94 "HST" that is 128mm, 11 blades and is a complete unit with factory built in motor.
If his is the DS-94HST DIA6740-600 it would be approximately 98Amps and 4300watts using 12s. This would be about 74N thrust on a test stand with bell mouth.

NOTE:
Your 1st post referenced using a CC HV80 ESC? You will be way over the capability of this ESC with decent batteries, the Schubeler fan and 1527 motor will run near 110Amps on good 12s cells.
Not sure about the 35C LiPo's you are using, may be that you will be down on power due to voltage sag under load.

The numbers Mike quoted is exactly right!
I do not think you chose the wrong motor, it should give good performance. The take-of run on my rafale is also a bit long, and with the first flight, I thought she will never get into the air! Good luck!

thanks for the info! u're right for the hv 80 too! the motor draw 118A exactly on WOT but never have problem with this hv who suppose to handle 30% more than the effective numbers and won't be at full throttle all the flight time
,anyway this is for the maiden ,i have another 120hv i order to arrive ...

i bought this unit with the motor already installed and was supposed to be the best motor for this schueb ,hmmmmm
i start to believe it's not!
i think i'm gonna change into a HET motor 700-98 on 12 cells if it doesn't take off next time

another question : do u use canards?? how did u set them ? rates ?
thanks!!

Yes, I use the canards. Maximum travel, it helps with take-off. Set-up to move the same as ailerons and the trailing edge down with up elevator. For aileron function on canards I use about 30mm but max travel for elevator function.
