What does perplex me is people who switch to bowman rings after they have a few hundred flights on an engine. Without honing the cylinder wall so the new ring can break in properly.

Whats even more perplexing is after an engine has a few hundred flights on it the piston ring is seated really well and the engine is making the most HP it can, and then they switch out the ring to a bowman ring.

Now I can understand switching to a bowman ring before you have put any gas thru it. But putting a bowman ring or any ring for that mater into an engine with a bunch on flights on it is just silly.

No ring is going to solve scoring issues or running to hot issues without re-honing and starting the breakin process over.

Seems someone posted that with the Bowman ring, you should not install it until the factory ring scuffs up the walls first.

Since the cylinder has a plating <which is thin> I am not completely understanding why you would want another new ring, making additional wear, to Jim's point its broke in and seated.

The thin plating is the only thing keeping the ring from eating the aluminum.

Only because I know it's there. Nobody else can see your green fluorescent tail wheel.
