Great Videos!

I doubt very seriously that one could actually hit a hawk even if we tried with our clumsy flying machines .

Many years ago I was happily flying an Aquila standard class sailplane about 1000ft up when a hawk that was circling above (standard procedure for sailplane pilots to look for hawks as they are masters at finding lift), when all of a sudden the hawk folded it's wings and dove down braking just as it hit the Aquila's wings which then flexed far more then I had ever thought they could well beyond the stress of a High Start launch. I quickly deployed the spoilers and jammed the stick of the transmitter in the corner and brought her down and landed as quickly as I could. I and my flying buddies were amazed, for one, that the plane had survived, but mostly that we could barely see the talon marks in the orange monokoted wings....it was just a warning and if she wanted to kill, I would have taken my plane home in a small box.

If it spins, wear it.

That hawk does bump that plane a bit... Those props are spinning at many thousands of RPM and are not very forgiving.. Looks like the hawk isn't getting any prop but keep it in mind. Along with hollow bones, they have thin skin. A cool video shot is nice and all but no one wants to see feathers flying. I'm not saying you hurt the bird, just saying to be careful.

They are more than likely protecting a nearby nest. Change venue for a while and leave them be. We certainly wouldn't do that at our field, annoying the wildlife. Shame it didn't knock you out the air permanently.

I had two hawks try to attack a UMX beast v1. I tried to evade, and one of the hawks pushed me down into the soybeans. I have never seen two hawks chase after something at the same time before. fortunately, the beast flew many more flights.

I got into a tussle with a blue heron once. I was flying pretty mildly with a super cub when the gigantic thing swept down out of nowhere and started chasing after me. I let it get maybe 5 feet behind me and pulled up into inverted for a few seconds, then brought it back down behind the thing. Very movie-esque (and pretty much the limits of the 3-channel cub's aerobatic ability...) A little stick-wiggling a ways behind it seemed to scare it off, and I haven't seen it around again.
