Wiper repair

I have wiper damage from fluttering by ailerons on my 4-meter X2. Not exactly sure how to go about repairing those without a large weight gain. Suggestions and experiences would be appreciated.

Half inch transparent scotch tape, one edge adhered to the main aileron and other overhanging edge slipped into the aileron channel is a quick light fix. Baby powder on the floppy part of the tape keeps it from sticking and aids in the tucking-in process. This is the type of wiper many DLGs have used and works fine on a big ship too. That’s how I fix mine, but I may be lazy and not care enough. Can’t get any lighter.

Aluminum blinds have about the same curve as most wipers. Use one as a mold to make a fiberglass wiper. Other than that, you can put some tape on the top of the aileron, and make it so it tucks into the bottom of the top wing skin. Mix up some epoxy and microballoons/flox and put that on the inside of the tape, and pull the aileron down. The tape should take the shape of a wiper, and mold the epoxy in the correct shape. Sucks that manufactuers don't use fiber something in their wiper mix!

If I may ask, how'd the aileron flutter? Bad servo or inadequate torque?

Aileron flutter generally occurs for me when I have a new model that's the most perfect Xploder I've had, and the lightest, and the best flying... and I'm sleep deprived because I work second shift... and I'm trying to fly off of one of them thar new fangled B winches with that mono stuff that I'm not used to... and I go too deep in the bucket and it goes way faster than I thought possible... because my thumb slipped slightly on the stick... (You believe that... right?)

That's my story... May the farce be with you...

Edit: Thank you all for these inputs... Repairs have begun in earnest...

Flash Break Tape works great. Get rid of all the molded crap and just use tape. It might even be lighter.

Mike,

Is that what was used on the tip panels of the Icon 2? I've never heard of Flash Break Tape.

Thanks,

Darth

Search amazon

maxi flash break 3.3 mil. 3/4 roll should work.

Not the same stuff as on the old models but it works well. That is what I used for my freestyler.

It also works fine for taping wings.

The other interesting tape you can find on amazon is 3/8 wide 1mil kapton tape that I use for taping on v tails.

Jack,
Did you finish the wiper repair? I don't understand any of the suggestions to use tape to repair a wiper. I need photos to figure it out. Now I've looked at the photos and still don't quite get it.

I have the correct tape but right now I haven't the time to do anything. I've been blitzed with server/switch/router cut overs at work and with grand children visits... (currently about to be blitzed by Nora and Eli within the next hour) One hundred eighty five days... to freedom!
