Build Log
"my new project"

Just received the latest Aust. RCM News issue featuring my full review of "Jets over Fraser Island" held last July with some fantastic models. Unfortunately I made in it commitment to build new and larger jet turbine powered foamy for the next event so I just realized I'll better get cracking.
Build, based on my drawing design using 6mm Depron, 2.5m long x 1.5m span model will be powered by "PST600R" jet turbine. This time I go for the conventional AIL/EL controls no Rudd. but only extra ch. for the nose gear. All lines must be strait no curves.
There are 4 steps, firstly I'll do half a doz. of drawings to select the one I like most, secondly I make smaller 2' long chukker to give me some idea about the CofG, thirdly I build identical but 75% smaller size prototype powered by 8-10S, 90mm EDF to work out it's characteristics and then I go for the real thing, Joe.

The third sketch based on my second convinced me enough to go ahead with the shape I like, so I made small hand launcher to give me an idea about centre of gravity for my next 90mm prototype version, Joe.

After working out centre of gravity with my small chukker the first layer of foam was cut to build my EDF prototype ready for laminating, Joe.

Well on my way laminating using C/F for stiffening, 30min. epoxy gives me enough time to line it all up, Joe.

This is the back bone of my build, very solid and stiff for such a large and extremely light frame, next comes upper body to give it even more strength, Joe.

Ready to install my power unit, 8,10 or 12S set up which ever I like to use on the day of flying. Servo leads have to be fitted before the top wing covers are epoxied in. Currently working on my control surfaces using pin hinges, Joe.

Very cool project! Any idea on a paint scheme for it? Hand launch?

A unique model needs a unique paint job

Hi, many Thanks, this smaller prototype I'll keep very simple I'm building it only to confirm my CofG for the large turbine version which will be guild with 24kt. gold leaf. This one I do in jet black on top and sandy/peach on bottom, same colour I use on my door frames, on both models I use own made alloy fixed gear for practical reason so I can fly them of any grass strip, Joe.

First touch of colour is applied but it takes at least two coats to cover white base, Joe.

You need some bright red and bright blue accents like your other jets Jo!
And the inlet ring!

Bottom half ready to be painted, EL. is fully hooked up just waiting for shipment of AIL. servos. Today I made fixed landing gear ready to be fitted. Possibly next week might get some flight time, Joe.
