Just bought a used geared Astro 15 geared cobalt motor and Astro Model 211 esc. want to power a 5-pound Sig Cub for grass ROG scale-like flight, 8-10 minutes duration with throttle management.
1.Number and type of cells needed.
2.Best Master Airscrew or APC prop.
3.Does the Astro 211 have BEC or will I need a rcvr pack?

E-Challenged, (Arn't we all), Answers to your questions:
1) 12 cells -- either 2400 Nicads or 3000 NiMH's. If performance is not up to what you wan't you can go to 14 cells, just try and keep the amps draw within reasonable limits,(25-30amps) 2) I like the Master Airscrew Electric props(wood) in a 12 x 8 on the Astro 15G. The APC's(electric) I use in smaller sizes are very good as well. 3) The Astro 211 does not have bec, so you will have to use a flight pack to power your receiver and servos.

I agree with Ron. I use the 14 cell set-up for A Tiger Moth to good effect. 12 cells is probably more than enough for for a Cub. I use the APC 12x8E prop and it seems to work geat.

I have a SIG clipped wing 1/6 scale cub. It is powered by a AF15G standard gearbox, MA 12 X 6-10 prop, and 12 2000mah nicd cells. It weighs between 5 and 6 pounds. I think about 85oz but cannot remember exactly. It has more than enough power. It flys very well at about 1/4 throttle. easy 10-12 minute flights, with throttle management. Excellent climb. It will fly and ROG with a ten cell pack but very borderline power. it need almost full throttle then to maintain level flight. 12 cells works great but if desired 14 would be fun too.
