Help!
450 Deadcat Unstable in flight

Hey,
My scratch build quad is extremely unstable in flight. when I take off, it manages to fly but wobbles like it is drunk. It is not the PIDS because the pids would never cause it to randomly wobble when hovering to this extent with stock PIDS. It is not the FC because I have tried it on the KK2 and Naze 32 6dof. Its ether the motors (multistars 2213 with horrible bearings and one of them doesn't even make a winding sound just a rattling sound when spun), the ESCs (my second lot of ESCs after multistar ones wouldn't even take off, the Q-brain 4 in 1 Esc), or the frame (my second frame as I thought it was my old homemade frame.)

Also, when I spin the motors up on the ground they tend to accelerate and decelerate randomly, which resembles the flight characteristics.

Thankyou!

Hi guy - Your motor condition certainly won't help but I'd look at the ESC calibration first. I never had a Qbrain but I know my Emax 4 in 1 was a chore to calibrate. This thread may be of some help:

Also, you can try a custom mix for your Dead Cat layout. Rob2160 did a cool spreadsheet to calculate the mixes for different dimensions:

Happy reading....hope this helps....

Thankyou for the help, but today, even though I have tried this before with no success, I had an idea that the PIDs must be wrong, I have calibrated the ESCs properly this quad is 2 years old now as it was my first and the one I learned from, so I couldn't find any other explanation. I then set I and D to 0 with stock P and it flew perfectly. It turns out that it flies properly at about 0.003 Integral, when the stock I, which I was using is 0.030. Thankyou anyway!

Glad you got it sorted. ...you may still want to try Rob's custom mix spreadsheet w/ your Deadcat...
