Small Brass Bar Stock - Where?

Where are people getting their brass bar stock these days.

K&S special shapes has limited sizes, and I went online to Micromark, and
the only shipping they offered was $38.00, despite the catalog rate of $9.95 per $50-$75.

Looking for 1/32"(0.0312") or 1/16"(0.060") thick by *** stock.
So x 1/16", x 3/32", x 1/8", x 5/32", x 3/16" wide

Umi, Try calling here:

https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/portland

Local to you so you can pick up and save shipping. A metal supply place will always have shorts & cutoffs. At work we use Speedy Metals and Thyssen Krupp. That is how I knew what to google.

The issue becomes that the thinnest the large distributors deal in is 1/8"(0.125).
I was hoping not to mill my own stock.

No help for the tiny strip stock... but I order my free machining brass bar stock from www.onlinemetals.com... a division of a huge company, but they (and a bunch of others) do ebay selling, and the prices have been surprisingly low.

The smallest width that have is 1/8" but if you're looking for thin stuff, it looks like they have it.

Thanks, I will give this a try.

Micromark has them, but they are batched as 13 pieces.
Maybe if I phone in the order, it will get cheaper shipping.

Thanks CB,

Again, the smallest bar McMaster Carr makes is thickness by 1/4 ".

No response to email from Special Shapes.

Probably try calling Micro-mark to see if I can avoid the $38 shipping charge online.

I have had good luck with Special Shapes getting small brass bars. I call them and they ship very quickly.

Good news Aimee.

I was going to suggest, if all else failed, to order whatever thickness you could find, and then have one of your machinist buddies fly cut it to the thickness you need.

hoo-boy... if anyone asked me to flycut 12 inch lengths of 1/16" x 1/8", I would politely refuse...

With the "right vise", and some skill, it can be done. That is how I got some of the "scale" metal pieces, under the stern of my LCM-6 based tug.
I will agree, it was NOT, a lot of fun!!!
