I bought an Exceed 40a ESC from xheli last March (when I started flying helis) and it's running strong still. At the time they were about $21, now they are $28... I guess they're real proud of them.

I also own an Align ESC 35a that isn't bad. But maybe not worth the dough. BTW one thing, IMO the slow start on the align is awesome compared to the exceed. It's nice, even, not too slow, but graceful, like a full scale heli.

I would consider a turnigy, depends on how much is wrapped up in the heli. I wonder when my exceed will give up maybe.

Hobbywing, Exceed, Turnigy all have the same programmer, I wonder if they are all the same guts.

I've used a few different ESC's on my 450 Pros.

HK Blue Series 40A - cheap, decent SBEC that can run all digital servos, can run up to 6s, not very good governor mode.

Hobbywing Platinum Pro 40A (same as HK K-force 40A) Excellent, SBEC adds choice of 5v or 6v outputs, can run up to 6s packs, better governor mode than Blue Series, easy to program with TX.

Turnigy Superbrain 40A - Data logging ESC, with great governor mode. Only has a 2A linear BEC, so you need to add a UBEC to run digital servos. Only does up to 3s packs.

Turnigy Superbrain 45A - Data logging ESC, with great governor mode, also with 3.5A SBEC that's fine for running all digital servos, though with only a 5v option. Can run up to 6s packs. Mine doesn't show current draw properly in the data logs, but voltage and rpm seem fine.

One that I have yet to try, but it's getting great reviews - the YEP 45A. It reputedly has a great governor mode, a good SBEC, 6s capability, and a feature called "active freewheel" that enables it to run low throttle percentages without overheating, but it's a bit of a bruiser at 63g.

All of the above ESC's would be a tight squeeze between the 450 Pro frames, which are only 1" apart. No problem for me, since I prefer to mount them on the outside of the frames.

I found a lot of opinions that YEP 45A better than K-force 40A ... This is the opinion of those who experienced these ESC.

As a result, I ordered YEP 45A and card programming. In any case, ordered UBEC 6V/3A. useful
