Highlights at a glance:
  • Instant 3D-vision – no additional video processing hardware required.
  • Wide-angle view by 2.2mm lenses.
  • No perceptible video signal latency due to advanced FPGA-based video processing on the camera. Both video sensors deliver their data digitally into the camera's processing unit.
  • Camera outputs industry-standard Side-by-Side or Field-Sequential 3D at your choice – compatible with state of the art and legacy 3D goggles.
  • No second Video Tx/Rx set necessary. The FPV-set you already have will suffice.
  • Built-in 3D-OSD for even more fun in the air (requires additional but inexpensive hardware, see instruction manual for details)
  • Extensive printed bilingual (English & German) manual.
What's in the box?

This is what you will get when placing the order at your reseller of choice:

Background

The NerdCam3D is a unique board camera which creates a stereoscopic analog video signal (CVBS). Unlike other 3D-board cameras the NerdCam3D supports both Field-Sequential 3D and Side-by-Side 3D video in NTSC as well as in PAL. This feature makes the camera compatible with a wide variety of legacy and state-of-the-art video goggles. The video signal created by the NerdCam3D can be fed either directly into the video goggle‘s AV-port or through single-channel wireless video transmission gear. Therefore this 3D-camera is perfectly suited for all First Person View (FPV) applications. In particular those users already operating a 3D-capable FPV video goggle (see below) now can enjoy stereoscopic perception just by swapping their present FPV-camera for the NerdCam3D. In addition the camera features a built-in stereoscopic on-screen display with basic status information like battery voltage, current consumption and flight time. The optional stereoscopic OSD requires an inexpensive PCF8591-based ADC board, connected at the camera‘s extension port and simple external circuitry for voltage and current sensing.

The NerdCam3D with all its features is the result of a 3-year effort including intense field-testing by the German FPV-Community. However, it is neither a typical crowd-funded project, nor a community venture, nor an open-source activity. Instead, it started as an individual spare time project and has finally grown into a real product. In order to respond adequately to the unprecedented reception and demand for this device, the camera was developed and qualified as ITE of Class B, according to FCC Part 15 as well as the corresponding European EMC-standards EN55022/EN55024.

Same here!
I love the camera, it really adds a new dimension to flying FPV, specially close to objects/ obstacles. It's like a whole new experience.

And it couldn't be any easier to setup, just install it -almost like most other standard board cams, hit the 3D video mode button on the DominatorHD's and go -you can even record your exploits on the goggle's onboard DVR and happily relive them anytime hahaha!

Standard 4:3 and 16:9 for Smart TV viewing - recorded with DominatorHD DVR

I'm already a big fan of this camera.
I looked at the blackbird but that uses sequential line format so it doesn't work with my cinemizers.
I then found the Nerdcam. The NC3D is a much more capable camera than the blackbird. It can do sequential line and the more common SBS format. So it works with my cinemizers and 3D TV's - result!

It also has a built in 3D OSD (I bet you forgot about that!) and has other clever features like an auto exposure window. This allows you to set the auto exposure to work in the top or bottom half of the camera image (good for late in the day or flying at sunset).

My camera is powered directly from my Immersion 5.8Ghz VTX

Here is my latest video where my flying buddy Dave gets to experience the NC3D for the first time:-

I'm using 200mw 3.2ghz vtx.
Gonna switch to 5.8ghz and see if video recording quality is improved. This flight early morning before work was fun.

Do you want to use the 3D-OSD feature but don't have the ADC4OSD nor the Flytron current sensor at hand? Check this out:

My recent blog entry http://www.themissinggear.eu/2014/09...shelf-version/ shows you how to activate voltage display and wall clock in the NerdCam3D's built-in 3D-OSD without the (rather useless) Flytron current sensor. It will look like the video shown in ChilternFlyer's post.

Recorded this flight with DomHD DVR. Sound is from a second camera. Would be nice if I could record 3D onboard. The DomHD DVR is designed as a video logger and it's wireless recording does not do the Nerdcam3D justice.

Could the camera somehow be wired to or designed to work with a micro DVR. Like 808 #16V2 or möbius?

Wow, what a flight. I just watched it on my phone using the parallel eyes trick. Even more impressive is the almost complete absence of interferences of any kind. What kind of VTx do you use? Is there any special filtering or something special you have figured out?

Don't think so, unfortunately. There is a digital video output on the backside of the camera PCB, however this is more a prerequisite for a future HDMI output (in SD though). An add-on board for that purpose still has to be designed. But I doubt that there will be great demand for such a thing as long as the cam is SD and our (payable) VTx are analog.
