Okay, I have all the parts ordered for this Mod on my 9X. Just waiting for it all to arrive. Went with the 1W booster. Got it for a great price brand new in box here in the US. I'll probably take pictures of the mod and post them up. My setup runs a 900mhz video and 2.4ghz tx, so it's gunna work out nice when it's finished.

It's a really nice little booster that is easy to install requiring no additional connector and cables.

So here is what I did with it.

I first checked how it would fit onto the Transmitter with my FRsky module. Normally the antenna connector points upwards but I opened it up and drilled a new hole so it points backwards.

I then put a 5A BEC inside the transmitter and put a connector on the back for the 6v output to the amplifier. The BEC is wired through the power switch of the transmitter the amplifier is switched on and off with transmitter.





I have flown 1.1km away so far without any problems. havnt had the importunity to go further yet.

I have a question, when I reach the limit of DX8, telemetry Fails starts sending me this about 847mts (2778ft)
when I started this back to home, to someone this happened to the telemetry of the
DX8

I only have experience with a DX7. I'm not sure what you mean?

If I have the stock antenna connected and
connected to each other, and ran the booster as well, what could or would happen?

I ask as a fail safe to not having shared tx switched power to your booster. Also could be convenient for removal of the booster for indoor flying in the winter. resale with a booster port option etc.

What should be the sequence of powering up the set: booster first and then the radio or radio on first and then the booster or it does not really matter as long as the antenna is on the booster and there is RF connection between the booster and the TX?

In my setup I will not be able to connect them both in the same time as there will be some distance in between them.

That is a good question, I'd like to hear the answer.

I read in the thread earlier that the booster doesn't power on until it gets signal from the transmitter. That would make me think that the booster could be powered first.

I've heard that powering on a transmitter without antenna can mess up the transmitter. Is that true?

Also, in a similar thread guys are saying these boosters can go out at any time and regularly. Is that true? Anyone here had a booster fail on them?

That one is easy - yes, it is true. You should not power up any radio TX witout the antenna.

Can you explain why you used an attenuator. Wouldn't that just reduce the potential range?

The booster has a maximum amount of signal it will intake. The attenuators makes sure the radio transmitter doesn't get burnt up when excess isn't used. That is the redneck response...you can read the thread to get a more scientific one...it's been addressed several times.
