I HAD a dream

In another thread I shared what was to be my "dream machine" that I would work towards getting in the next year. Well, that has changed. And the picture below is the reason. That is a picture of $3,000 worth of two week old junk. Well, two weeks ago it was a beautiful SAB 700. It's like I have a "vision" of this in my driveway. I can clearly see that happening to me. It has already happened on a much less expensive scale. See my thread about totaling out my brand new Beast 3D plane, and almost totaling my Polaris Seaplane on it's maiden. I guess I just don't want to risk losing that much money in the blink of an eye. I could do that at one of the many Indian Casino's springing up all over around here. lol
No, its just to risky for me. So, now I am trying to come up with something else.

Hmm, I suppose part of the fun for me is the risk, and when the worst-case doesn't come to fruition, I consider every time I go out flying, and DON'T crash to be an accomplishment, I guess it depends on how much you're willing to spend on that risk. I'm with you though, I'm not willing to spend THAT much money on something that may very well crash. Those Helis are for people who don't think twice about dropping 3 grand on an R.C. model. I'm thinking my cap would be 500 bucks for either a plane or a helicopter...

This was caused by a "loss of signal" malfunction. This can happen even with over $1,000 worth of electronics that are supposed to ensure that this never happens!. I suppose any thing can fail at any time.

I lost a $2200 plane 2 summers ago to a radio failure. It does happen. For me, there is something different with big helis and yes I owned and flew a MA IonX back in the day. With most of my flying machines I can fly them and make small mistakes here and there and only be out a couple of bucks and a little repair time. With a big heli there is no such thing as a cheap little mistake. There is just big mistakes and bigger ones. For that reason, I'll never go back to flying a 700 size heli.

Do you personally know who crashed that goblin? They'll probably need a get well card and a beer if so.

It's really shocking how many "loss of signal" crashes there are. I don't know anyone who has ever crashed due to pilot error

Well, on the plane mentioned above it was verified. I had a spotter with me and as my plane went from straight and level flight to rolling all by itself and I told him, "look at my sticks". We just watched as my 2 day old Wind 110S rolled itself all the way to the ground.

I lost two more planes that year to dumb thumbs and I admitted it. Admitting a mistake is the first step in learning from the mistake. Ya gotta take responsibility for your mistakes on the path of life if you truly want to learn from them.

ohhhhhhh that would almost literally break my heart. Great example of why i try and keep all my builds at 1k or less. About the most i could handle in a dirt nap without quitting the hobby altogether.

My large helicopters are more fun to fly. How, and when I fly them depends on how much money I have at the moment.

Right, but he did post his flight log and seems to support the claim of loss of signal. Posted the log over at rcheliaddicts

A little off subject here. But funny how that goes for different people. All together i have a 450-500-550-600, And i admit the one i have the most fun to fly with is the 450. For whatever reason I'm Just much more aggressive with it. My flight moves are so much snappier. The larger i go in heli size the more lethargic my moves become.
I just work that lil 450 as if it were on crack !!

** on topic** This video makes me think what a crock. Pretty sure the o.p did not have a car roll over his goblin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=POhSA8ckIMk OR this vid of the ol' hammer
SAB Goblin Boom Strength Test - Hammer Whack! (1 min 7 sec)

However if i had the money I'd still buy one.

Well, at least it's not THIS expensive to make a little mistake!!!

"An F-22 fighter jet used in a flyover during a remembrance ceremony at Pearl Harbor scraped its tail on a runway as it landed, causing $1.8 million in damage."

Tax payer money... No biggie. Probably would only cost a private firm a tenth of that for a better repair.
