Help!
Wattage Mig-15 BL motor replacement

I have a Wattage Mig-15 kit collecting dust and would like some advice on a drop-in brushless motor replacement. I have a variety ESC's and lipos and would like to up the anemic stock setup while maintaing the included fan unit. Any suggestions? A search didn't yield much.
Thanks,

A 22mm inrunner in the KV range of 2500-3500 would be a good plan. I cut 3 blades out of PF impellers, and used 4500 KV motors with good success, too.

HC has motors like this. BP also has Feigao 22 mm (130 size) in several KV ranges. GWS "green" motors work well, too.

The 64mm outrunner set-up J-Power uses would be a good drop-in, as well as the 64mm Starmax set-ups.

Here's an ELE set-up, motor and fan - almost 300 watts, which should really rock in your MIG

My last two Wattage Migs and Sabres, use the HET 3W, Tsunami 36, and 2200-4s, cut down minifan or KY rotor. Good for 430W at 30A. Balanced great. But glass the wing joints..

The Ammo 28-35-3900 is a drop in fit (Tower Hobbies ), will pull 25 amps on 3S. Thrust at speed double the original. You will need a 1/8th inch shaft adapter, see my thread this forum, "Wind Tunnel Tests - Wattage Fan/ Ammo Motor".

I did some measuring of the stock motor and it is 28mm not 22mm so that wouldn't exactly be a drop-in. It appears to be a 400 size motor and 64mm fan unit. Looking at the lightflight ARC 28x37x2 (3750kv, 300watts)) weighs a little less than stock but should slip right into the housing, may have to up the adpater since the shaft is 3.2mm. That with some 1550 3s lipos(137g), I should should be good eh?

Thanks for the suggestions.

You may need a larger pack, to balance, with it located in the batt tray. Mine all balanced perfectly with the 2200 4s packs. Remember, these jets were designed for the old NiMh 1000Mah 10 cells to balance. ARC are great mtrs. I have several.

Yeah, I threw that heavy-weight thing in the trash after it gave me a whole 1 minute flight time with my zagi.

I have some Rhino 2350's that would work weight-wise, but they may be too long to fit in the battery compartment.

Thanks for the advice, we'll see how it goes.

The ammo 28-35-3900 fitted in fine, the mount holes lined up for two mounting screws. With the 1/8 inch fan adapter, it was in balance, no vibration at all. I have run it over an hour in the wind tunnel at 30,000+ rpm, so the fan can take it. The extra clearance motor case to motor aids motor cooling.

When I had mine I flew it on 3S with a 3400Kv motor in the Wattage housing and a cut down Wemo MF480. Weighed 20oz put out 12oz thrust and flew about 80ish. Was a great plane. If I had the chance I would go 3W and 4S 2200, would be crazy fast and great vert. Have video of mine of my old Wattage Mig on my youtube.
