Build Log
X-UAV Talon build thread

My Talon has finally arrived, after a week of hair pulling frustration with customs I've been looking for a replacement to my worn out Skywalker and fell in love with the looks of this.

I'm not the fastest, um, assembler, but I plan on getting this one in the air as soon as. I have the week off next week so will try to get as much done as possible.

Nice sturdy box...

Now that I've pulled everything out, I'm impressed. The molding is clean and that inspires me with confidence that it's going to slot together perfectly. Includes a spare clear dome and the usual bag'o'bits which I'll get into later. This is going to be one purdy aerie.

More to follow next week...

Some more pics - carbon rod for stiffness and a perfect fit for the BEVRC ES08MA servos. Happy with that

The molded in centre hinges (not top) are also far better than that of the Skywalker, both on the ruddervators and the ailerons. I will make a call on them later.

The wing is stiff and smooth, good molding and the same hinges as the ruddervators. The joiner tubes go OVER the ones in the wing.

The backbone of the Talon is made up of 6 laser-cut ply components that slot together, a real triumph of CNC production. The wing joiner is a snug but perfect fit.
The whole assembly slides neatly into place in the molded sides.

The fuselage halves have pre-installed carbon rod longerons to beef up the front end.

It has an integral centreline wheel and small ourunners - look draggy to me but will install, I can always clip them off.

There also a great accessory pack, much better quality then the Skywalker etc.

Comes with one spare dome - nice and clear. I may paint the white EPO matt black inside to prevent reflections. Took a few pics through the dome.

I'm also looking to replace my Skywalker. With something that's more portable and can still fit an awful lot of equipment. This looks promising.

After a bit of debate I pulled an E-Flite 32 out of a retired (very tired!) plane. It will probably be overkill but should provide plenty of go on 4S - said Zippy 8000mAh 4S pack is swallowed up in the fuz. There's probably room for 3 abreast.

Wow a 32 sized motor! Here I was thinking about just going with a '15' sized motor vs the 25.

"Use what you have"

I had the 15 on the Skywalker but it only happily turns a 9x7 on 4S and I really want a big pitchy prop - a 12 or 13" - cruise speed!!!

I might have to follow your lead on this. I have a G32/600 laying around and RCTimer still hasn't sent my motor. I ran eCalc on the G32 and things look a little to good. That was swinging a 14" prop!
