In the 40amp and up rating what is the best ESC for the money from HK or HPartz?...would also be curious as to what is teir best ESC with a switching bec?

The Hobby King Plush series has always worked great for me, never had a failure. The best part is being able to use the programming card to set up the esc. I've had at least 12 to date. Doug B

Plush. Plush all the way. Programming card, amazing preformance, smooth throttle response... That's all I use on everything but motor/esc combo packs.

It is identical to the Turnigy Plush, (uses the same program card of course), is in stock in California and costs quite a bit less. I have been using them in 40, 60 and 80 size. They are solid. Look at the 70 amp size for the complete application chart.

I have both an 18A detrum and an 18A plush. I think they do run the same firmware (hence same programming), but under the shrink the 18A plush is MUCH different than the 18A detrum. The soft start is much more linear on the Plush, as well as a more snappy brake.

That said, maybe there's more equivalency at the larger sizes.

the 40 plush is listed as 3A linear.. not sure i;d trust that on 6s. the 40A detrum says switching BEC so.. not the same or bad description?

also, i vote for detrum, cheaper, closer and same performance. haven't noticed any less power or smoothness than 25A plush

There are some esc's running Hobbywing firmwares and can be programmed with Hobbywing card. Purple Towerpro 40A (without shrink tube) is one. I bought a Hobbywing Pentium 80A from ebay. Turned out to be counterfeit. I reported ebay and got refund by the seller. The esc works like a charm anyway counterfeit or not.

The Plush is mislabeled. The P40 is switchmode BEC and is identical to "Detrum" and "Hobbywing Pentium". So choose brand for price. +1 for these ESCs - they are bulletproof and underrated. I have many of them and use them in my 64MM EDF hot setups (750W) and these planes fly at 45-48A sustained. Never a problem. Of course, I make sure they are well ventilated.

The 60A and 80A Plush / Detrum / Pentium are also very good.

Ehh... I still believe that the 18A Plush and Detrum are different units, at least in hardware. They have different board layouts and what looks like different FETs under the shrink.

Yes, those are different, and so are the 25s. But the 40s are identical.

Ah. Makes sense. If I ever get something over 40A, I'll go with the Detrums then.

All of the Dynam are switch mode (2 or 3 amp) from 12 amp to 80. The 3 amp BEC starts with 40 amp model. I know the 40 and 60 are identical as I have both of those sizes. I would guess the 50, 70 and 80 are also. Maybe all are identical that have switching bec's? I can tell you the Detrums have been very very good, I run a couple of the 40's at well over the 40 amps on burst and have never had a problem.I have 60's in my 6s planes.
