Contest
First ever Las Vegas Invitational DLG contest, 21-22 February 2015, Dates CONFIRMED!

Throwing the cat amongst the pigeons.

With a thank you to John Graham who has secured the site, Please come join us on a dry lake bed just outside of Henderson Nevada for the first ever (annual) Las Vegas Invitational DLG contest.

The site is an old lake bed which should make for some fun flying. Camping will be permitted including the use of bbq's and is encouraged!

A short drive to central Vegas for those wanting to go into town for an evening or for the family? There is also plenty of local accommodation in Boulder City or Henderson.

If you would like to join in the fun, get your invitation at F3XVault here: http://f3xvault.com/?action=event&fu...w&event_id=427

This will be an AMA sanctioned contest and you need to have a current AMA membership to fly.
The cost is $60 which will include lunch and refreshments for both days.

** Being Vegas, we may have quite a few rounds of poker! Some have even talked about the possibility that somewhere you may be able to place a bet on the outcome?

The location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/35...!3m1!1s0x0:0x0

We will be flying on the south end of the lake. There is a small entrance from the main highway quite close to the south end of the lake that will save you driving down the lake bed itself.
Here is the exact position of the access road: https://www.google.com/maps/place/35...!3m1!1s0x0:0x0
Pilots meeting at 9am, Saturday and Sunday with first task at 9:30

A maximum of 20 prelim rounds, the first task being 5x2.
Subsequent tasks will be added randomly by F3K Master.
The matrix will be created for all 20 potential tasks.
The last task on Sunday must start before 11:30.
There will then be a short lunch break before the EFF (everyone flies flyoff).

We should be finished by 4pm or just after.

The EFF will consist of four rounds with three groups equally divided and seeded by prelim position.
In the case of uneven flight group sizes, the first groups get the extra pilots in order.

Positions taken from the EFF

Open Class Awards
1st $100 EFF Group A
2nd $60
3rd $40
4th $30
5th $30 EFF Group B
6th $20
7th $20 EFF Group C
8th $10

Sportsman Class Awards
1st place trophy - Best placed sportsman from prelim results

Note: Sportsman pilots will take away open awards if placing in that position in the EFF
This also means the best sportsman could potentially take away two trophies!

Prelim scores are here: http://f3xvault.com/?action=event&fu...w&event_id=427
The contest report and flyoff results are here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=332

If I was to do awards differently, there would be a trophy for last place too.

Here are the winners - condolences on all that just missed them, but fly better next time

PS: To those who donated their cash prizes to the US F3K team fund, thank you!
Doug informed me that several of you did that and also some additional donations were received.

Same weekend as the big East coast gathering in Florida... and F3J in Phoenix / SWC...

I'll be in Florida that weekend but Vegas would be an easy travel for guys coming from the East.

I was looking at flights to LA for the JEM this past week and it's just too much money. Over a grand just in flights and hotel. Vegas flights are usually half of that for me.

Bummer... I bet this one is a reaaaaallly good time.

Tom,
The JEM is not in LA. FWIW, the airfare is under 400 bucks with taxes and TSA Union Tariffs included. You are leaving on Friday morning from Columbus to ONTARIO, which is less than an hour from the field. LAX, OC, and San Diego are all more than 2 hours away. With one stop, you get in at 2 15 PM. You can ship your planes to my house, and Ill bring them to you.

You can stay at my house on friday nite, and saturday nite. That will cost you zero.

Its going to be 75 degrees and sunny. But not in columbus..... youre move.

Gavin, whats your deal (excuse)?

Airfare to Vegas via Southwest from RIC is about the cheapest place I can fly to anywhere in the US. Especially in February, like ~$80. Really scratching my chin hard on this one. I'd like to go visit FL again, but I'd also really like a good excuse to take a week in Vegas. Yes a week, I'll need some recovery time from flying
