RDS question...

Hi guy's

I'm currently assembling my first RDS. I checked some Victor, Travis and other posts but I still always come with one question.

Is it important that the rod sit at 90 degrees vs the hinge line. What will it change in the travelů will it create differential ?

thanks
Thierry

I found something here with some good pictures. RDS installation

Looks like they don't really care about the rod at 90 degree vs the hinge line.

As you concluded, no need to mount them at 90 degrees. In fact I don't think that would be possible without bending the arms or repositioning the servo in such a manner that you wouldn't have access to it through the servo bay. I think the most important thing is to do a mock power up to see where the servo/frame "settle" with minimal or no binding. Mark the position, apply glue then power up again one last time to verify there's no binding before the glue sets.

The hinge line needs to line up with the center of the bend in the rod is what I did. Seemed to work great.

That's true. The problem comes with extreme deflection. Then that position moves fore and aft a bit. Aft on down flap, forward on up.

I spent the last several days looking for my simple RDS calc, but didn't find it. I lost a lot of files with a hard drive crash last year.

However, looking through RCG, came up with the file in the DLG section :
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1257781&page=2.

My Spreadsheet is also based off of Drela's and Gus's.

Post #22 gives an explanation of what happens during RDS wiper rotation.

Post #27 gives the Excel spreadsheet. It is just renamed with a ZIP extension tricking RCG to host the file.

To use it, just rename the extension to an xls one. Example: rename the file to: RDS Cal.xls
