Hi bob heres a video of your balacer i received today. Very impressed, the fan on video was actually balanced on magnetic balancer last week after playing with your balancer fo an hour or so i thought i would check it. Exellent work Regards Rod

The triple led silver ones should be as bright as the single black one in the vid.
Yes they look like a standard usb lamp but I have modified the current limiting.

some have a 10 ohm resistor on the pcb and the lamp has no current limiter so dont try it in a usb slot.

if the pcb resistor is linked out then the current limiter is within the lamp.

You can pop the face off the silver ones to see if the resistor is there, if it is you can lower the resistance to get the lamp brighter.

I've got my Bob-o-Matic balancer, and done a few small tests so far. Unfortunately, nothing big to report yet as there's a few other areas of my life getting some overdue attention just now.

The only thing that concerns me regarding this dynamic balancer is how sensitive the internals are.

Man, I nearly pooped myself when I slowly edged up the throttle on a 2S LiPo via a servo tester.

Nothing...nothing...nothing.. and then it suddenly jumped into life.

Not uber-fast, but it gave a fair jolt.

Bob - how sensitive are these sensors? And how much is too much?

I've put balancer on the self for now - a bit wary of applying too much force to the sensor pads and risk causing my blancer to sh'it itself.

Are the sensor pads available/expensive.. and how hard are they to replace in case I do the wrong thing...???

Some escs are poor at starting smoothly dont forget you can use a smaller esc as you are not doing any real work with the fan/motor so you may have an old one in the bits box.

enable the soft start function in the esc, gearbox/heli mode if you can.

The sensors are quite tough but a big fan and a violent start may cause a large amount of travel.

The good news is they are not expensive 3gbp per pair plus postage.
I have been extremely rough with them myself and not been able to destroy one in normal use.

The nature of the way the unit is constructed will physically limit the travel so the beam cannot get at them too badly.

Had no problems with mine and I have used 90mm fans.....but as said use the soft start if you can

Yep I'm ashamed how rough I treat mine at times (even when I'm popping the EDF 'holder' on and off to do adjustments). But countless fans balanced and still going strong.

I'll rummage through my ESC box to see if I can find one that starts the motor spinning with little servo tester travel. And of course, "soft start" - great info I hadn't thought of...
