plantraco dsp4c w/esc

Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the Plantraco receiver with built in esc? Seems like a bargain if it works well.

Mine works great. I used the esc to control a 280 motor. The RX is solid. No problems.

I've had one in my Slow Stick aerial photography plane for almost a year. Stock 300C-D with 11X8 prop on 7 KAN 950's or 8 AAA 700's. Never had a problem. I've had the Slow Stick specked out and never had a glitch. I've never flown around other fliers though.

I flew with one in an indoor setting with 5 other fliers in the air - until I had a mid-air, (Gee, I wonder why THAT happened!). I am using a GWS A drive and a 2S1P E-Tec 700 pack and 2 servos. I never got a radio glitch. A local hobby shop is selling them for $65CAN including the crystal.

I wonder if anyone has used this RX with a Speed 350 /400 motor or you will have to use a separate ESC.
They claim that the build-in ESC can handle up to 12A but I will take this with a grain of salt as it uses a single Mosfet and not a very good one IMHO (mine is with IRF7813).
Other than that it is a bargain - it is cheaper compared to the Berg's and is also "glitch-free" , uses cheap crystals too and can use the GWS's in a case you have some extra, better range that the all the GWS RXs and as an added plus has a build in ESC capable of handling up to 280 (maybe 300 too - see Jim Taylor's posting above).

I'm away on vacation right now so can't check on the FET number, but the one on mine (IRF????) is rated at 12A but I believe Plantraco rates the DSP4 for 10A. Assuming you have a little airflow I don't think I'd worry about using it clear up to the DSP4's rated current which should be enough for most 300C setups. The 300C on my Slow Stick will pull 9.5 A static, but is probably only pulling 6A most of the time the way I fly it. International Rectifier makes higher rated SOT8 FETS that appear to be compatible. I got a couple higher rated FETS from Digi-Key and replaced the FET on another DSP4 with a higher current rated one. I've bench tested it and it seems to work fine, but I haven't put it in a plane yet. My eyes aren't what they used to be so I worry a little about my SMT soldering skills but the one I did seems fine on the bench. I did that because I thought I might want to replace the 300C with a 350 and I'm not sure 10A will be enough for a 350 on KANs. Another option might be putting a heat sink on the existing FET. If anyone is interested I'll post the specs. and number of the FET I used when I get back home after Christmas.

I have one and use the ESC with a GWS 350 in a formosa(2 etech 1200,s or 2 1500 Kol's). Great compination, never a problem even with many fliers in the air at the same time. The reciever is as solid as my 555's.

DSP-4SC

Anybody know if there is a way to use channel 3 for a second aileron servo? I've got a foamie using 2 aileron servos and it would be nice not to have to use a wye. Matt

Another source for the Rx is www.balsapr.com, $55US w/ xtal. The Canadian price seems more attractive but doesn't include the xtal, shipping costs might negate the cost savings.

I've got 3 RXs and very happy with them, sold off my GWS Pico RXs after I got the DSP4-SCs.
